Picspam, full of Northanger Abbey-flavoured goodness.
This is Catherine. She is played by Felicity Jones, who is adorable. Doesn't she look young?

Catherine likes novels, because when she reads them, she has saucy daydreams:

The saucy daydreams make her swoon.

These are the Allens. They want to take Catherine to Bath, which is Full Of Scoundrels.

Catherine loves novels so much she even reads them on bumpy coach rides!

Also, it would appear Catherine has something of a scoundrel fetish. This is handy, since Bath is Full Of Scoundrels.

In addition to being Full Of Scoundrels, Bath also resembles a particularly sweaty moshpit.

Catherine is harassed by a variant of the common garden Scoundrel: The Pervy Old Man

Thankfully, Mr Henry Tilney appears. He is played by JJ Feild, and is therefore ADORABLE. He also moves his head around a lot, which makes him Difficult To Screencap.

Because he has much knowledge of muslins, there is good-natured banter and a teeny bit of flirting.

Then, dancing!

But what's this? A Scoundrel!

But Catherine, despite her scoundrel fetish, knows a good thing when she sees it, and thus continues flirting with Mr Tilney.

Catherine then has a dream involving Mr Tilney. Swordfighting. IN EYELINER.

Understandably, Dream!Catherine responds thusly:

In the daytime, Catherine is befriended by Isabella Thorpe. She is too saucy for her own good, and will be a Corrupting Influence.

See?

Turns out, the Scoundrel we met earlier is Isabella's brother, John. The dark-haired man is Catherine's brother, James. He was in Chocolat! And My Left Foot!

John proves his Scoundrel credentials by failing to maintain appropriate personal space while dancing.

Catherine is downcast because she sees Mr Tilney with another woman.

But it's okay! It's just his sister.

Because he is a Scoundrel, John abducts Catherine, forcing her to stand up Mr Tilney!

Mr Tilney shows his disappointment by looking reproachful. And HOT.

Catherine is eager to explain the situation.

Because he is lovely, Mr Tilney understands. And is embarrassed by his sister, who's totally onto him.

Country walks afford people opportunities to flirt.

Isabella is engaged to James!

John proposes to Catherine in a rather rubbish and cryptic manner.

Because Catherine is starting to see the light re: the merits of Scoudrels Vs the merits of Mr Tilney, she makes this face:

This is Henry's brother, Captain Tilney. In addition to being a Scoundrel, he is a Bastard.

Isabella is intrigued.

Catherine gets to go to Northanger Abbey in Mr Tilney's cart!

Needless to say, he is adorable.

Also, there is rather more serious flirting. Flirting with intent, if you will.

But then (perhaps with the subconscious intention of seeing Henry be hot and reproachful), Catherine does something silly, as a result of reading too many novels.

He discovers her, and is hot and repraochful.

Catherine is sad.

Meanwhile, Isabella and Captain Tilney have been having the sex.

For some reason, he doesn't want to marry her. SCOUNDREL!

Anyway, Catherine's been kicked out of Northanger Abbey by Henry's eeeevil father, so he comes to her house to make amends. They are adorable.

Then, proposal! And HOT kissing.

Owing to the veritable feast of JJ in Northanger Abbey, I think it wise to subdivide the hotness into categories. Purely for reasons of analysis, you understand.
In which Henry Tilney is smiley and/or charming

Um, I totally want to be Mrs Allen's shoulder.

Smirk O'Hotness!

Mr Tilney AND ice cream? Sweet Lord.

The man even leans adorably!

Saucy Dream Vicar!

HOT SOUP EATING!

Oh, to be an apple...

In which Mr Tilney is angsty

Scenes which are awesomely hot

That's a really sexy thumb.

The End.

& I can't decide which is better: Reproachful/Hot!Henry Tilney or Smiley/Charming!Henry Tilney!
...decisions, decisions ;)

Date: 2007-04-18 12:58 am (UTC)It is a troubling question. I do love some JJ angst (and he is so very hot when he's being reproachful), but some of his smiley/charming! facial expressions are absolutely adorkable.
Conundrum! I think I'll have to rewatch to weigh the evidence...

Also, Helen and Jeremy! I love that Elizabeth.

....WHO is the guy who plays James in Chocolat? I KNEW that dude was familiar, but I though it was something else. *goes to IMDb*
HEH.
For some reason, JJ looks really evil in this one. Cute, but definitely evil.
HEEE! (Um, this is becoming a really hyper comment so...yes. Please excuse me).
Wow, I never realised how hot the soup eating is before *ogles*
Also WORD.
Thank you so much for this post. I may well have to go and watch this now.

Date: 2007-04-18 07:51 pm (UTC)I think the hotness of the soup-eating is pretty much an open secret at this point. Loads of fanvids use it at crucial moments and stuff.
He does look a bit like an evil imp, but it's such a cute moment in the film that I couldn't *not* cap it, but he was dancing at the same time, and the camera was moving, and that was the best I could do...

It's so sweet how Catherine just kinda looks at him like she isn't really sure what to do, then she falls into his arms... ;) And I love the scene after they've been riding and he wipes the mud off her face...that's my favorite scene in the whole movie!
Yup, definitely need to watch again.
