I have a problem with capitalisation. Particularly with regard to titles. I don't know if it's a desire for a vague sort of symmetry, but I don't feel comfortable writing a title unless all the words have capital letters. Even words which really don't need them, like 'of'. Even on iTunes, I have to manually change the song titles. That takes a while, I can tell you.

All of which is besides the point. It's just a way of easing myself in gently to what I hope will be the cathartic process of actually keeping a journal. Over the years I've repeatedly tried, and failed, to maintain a diary, usually at times of optimum angst, and they've all fizzled out. I don't know what draws me to it over and over again; perhaps it's the desire to be absolutely honest with someone, anyone. Perhaps I've romanticised the notion so much over the years that it's become my Holy Grail, although if that was really the case I should be sitting down at my desk with a luxurious notebook bound in rose coloured satin, writing with a fountain pen, in blue ink. I think the main reason has more to do with my desire to prove that my life contains something inherently important, something I can capture by writing it down. Will the act of writing elevate my life? I don't know. I think so. I hope so.

Side note: I am torn, in this era of increasing American influence, as to my lexical choices. 'Capitalisation' or 'capitalization'? 'Romanticising' or 'romanticizing'? I'm drawn to the softer, sibilant 's', whether out of a misplaced sense of national pride, or my aesthetic leaning. Fuck it.

I do that ALL the time. Some words look weird capitalized, so I just capitalize all of them.

And I added you back! :)

Out of curiosity, why did you friend me?

Woop!

I think it was a combination of your truly awesome Firefly iconage *squees some more* and the crazy anticipationlove for 300... None of my physical friends know or care! Grrrr.

Also, I need friends. *looks forlorn*

Cool! Firefly and 300 aside, what else do you like?

Oh, lord... Too many fandoms to mention, I'm an uber-geek.

Doctor Who, Torchwood, anything Joss Whedon touches, superheroes, Jane Austen, Lord Of The Rings, shiny shiny icons (although my computer won't let me make any), Ian McEwan, Frank Millar, Thoreau, Harry Potter, Sylvia Plath, James McAvoy, anything with period costumes, Elizabeth I, loud indie music, Garden State...

Lots and Lots and Lots. And Capital Letters.

Yourself?

Fandoms > life.

Anyway, I have an undying passion for LotR and Jane Austen. I usually get pretty nuts about them. Additionally, I love anything by Dickens, or any classic for that matter. Harry Potter is up there as well. In terms of TV, I love Firefly, literally EVERYTHING that Aaron Sorkin has created, Heroes, (which I just got into and love) and nerdy things like Antiques Roadshow. I'm a history fanatic, and actually switched high schools to get a better history program. My music taste is all over the place. I tend towards indie music, but I also adore the sort of stuff that you piss your parents off with like System of a Down or Nirvana. And I have a growing passion for classical music.

Wow, that was long. Sorry if it was a snore. ;)

Ooh, Aaron Sorkin! J'adore The West Wing and Sports Night, but we UK hicks are still waiting for Stuido 60! Chandler + Bradley + Sorkin is making me very excited. We haven't got Heroes yet, either, and I'm really excited because Christopher Eccleston is joining the cast! I get a bit intimidated by reading Dickens, but I love the adaptations. Have you seen Bleak House and Our Mutual Friend? The Beeb give good period drama.
I did history at A-Level, loved it, but I've just started an English Lit degree and I love that even more. And the thing I got shouted at for the most was playing Nirvana too loudly...

Shameful admission: I'm 18 and I still watch Disney films.

Studio 60 is brilliance. I think in my heart of hearts I love West Wing and Sports Night better, but Studio 60 is pure excellence. Heroes is different, but it appeals to the 13 year-old fanboy stuck in me. You can watch all the episodes here to get caught up. I started watching it literally right before it went on winter hiatus, and watching the episodes online was a great way to catch up. It's really important that you watch all of the episodes and in order, otherwise it's rather confusing. But it's totally worth the watch. The characters are complex, and almost all (with the exception of maybe 2) of them are totally likeable.

Dickens took me awhile to get into. I read A Christmas Carol when I was 13, and was raised on A Muppet Christmas Carol, but it wasn't until I hit high school that I got into him. Read A Tale of Two Cities. I cannot stress it enough, I love that book so much. I recommend with Dickens watching the adaptation before committing to the book. At least that way you'll know if you like the characters and you'll be able to follow the plot better. Bleak House is probably my favorite miniseries ever.

I could go either way with Lit or history when I go to college next year, but I think history's my priority. I love reading and analyzing books, but doing it for a class seems like too much of a chore. And I really want to get into the field of museum curating as a career, so history's definitely tops right now.

Disney is my favorite. Seriously. My friends come over and we belt it all out with Pocahontas. And I still cry at Beauty and the Beast.

Wow, museum curating. I literally have no clue what I want to do, career-wise, so I'm just doing the subject that I love the most. My parents are convinced I'll be unemployable. And a lot of the modules I do relate to a specific historical period, so I still get to research all the historical context stuff. Like, this term, I'm doing American Lit pre-1910, and today we were talking about the Trail of Tears and looking at the Cherokee Memorials. *geek-out over*

I'd been supressing my Disney love for years, until I came to uni and found out everyone I lived with loved them too! I play the piano, and I have a keyboard in my room at uni, so we have big Disney-related singing sessions, losers that we are. I'm completely torn between B&tB and The Little Mermaid, but I've also got a helluva soft spot for Hercules... I totally want to be Meg.... Apart from the whole 'deal with the devil' thing.

Cheers for the Heroes link, I'll definitely check it out! I've sneaked a peek at some of the recaps on TWoP, but it's just not the same. :)

Yeah. My friend's dad always teases me because a BA in history will literally get me nowhere until it hit me that I really wanted to work in a museum. I figured that out when I went to a terribly dull museum and vowed that I wanted to change it. It seems like with museums are either strictly fact, which doesn't appeal to everyone/can be boring or is overly commericalized and misses the point of history. I want to find a happy medium. And the prospects of dealing with the artifacts thrills me. :)

TWoP annoys me to no end. The absolute pretentiousness of it all makes me wonder if they realize that TV's for entertainment.

Wow, I just watched the first 2 episodes of Heroes! That was immense. I won't write to much now because I'm alternating episodes with chapters of Hiawatha and I have a seminar in 2 hours.... But that was incredible. And how awesome is Hiro?

Ooo! Let me know what you think of later episodes!

I LOVE Hiro! I actually pretty much love all of them, tops being Hiro, Claire, Peter, Mohinder, & Matt. In fact, the only character I REALLY don't like is Simone.

From: [identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com
Why am I still watching Heroes when I have an essay due in 2 days? Because it's damn addictive, that's why.

Okay, 4 eps in, and I totally hate Simone. Peter's just too pretty to be wasted on her! Hiro is awesomeness as usual, I love love love Psychic!Matt and I want Mohinder to carry on wearing tight clothes. I thought I would hate Claire The Invincible Cheerleader, but she actually kicks a considerable amount of arse. Is Christopher Eccleston in it yet?! Gahhhh.

From: [identity profile] darkangsty42.livejournal.com
Yay! We have all the same favorites! :)

In the most recent episode, Simone did this weird 360 personality change and is back to liking Issac. Seriously, she is the paragon of fickle woman.

Mohinder = Very pretty.

I love Claire and think she's adorable. Aside from the whole perky blond/cheerleader/popularity thing, I see a lot of myself in her inward self.

Christopher Eccleston was in the most recent episode and is back for tonight's episode. I think he's becoming a mentor of sorts to Peter. Me = very excited. :)

I guess not. :p

I hated how she didn't believe a word Issac said, but when Peter went and said it, she totally believed him. And now she suddenly believes Issac again.

*le sigh*

Grrr.

Okay, 6 episodes in, and Eden is eeevil! And she just kissed the lovely Mohinder! And she is eeevil! What is it with the women on this show?

Side note: Hiro just gets more and more adorable! Waffles! Swords! Angst! He rocks my socks... In an entirely different way than Peter, obviously.

I initially only liked Claire, but Matt's wife seems to be mellowing out, and Niki is becoming more sympathetic.

Christopher Eccleston's character Claude is AWESOME. His interaction with Peter is effing amazing. Look forward to it. :)

None of the links for Ep7 are working!!!!!

Whoops! I just deleted your last comment, but I read it, honest!

I managed to get hold of 8 and 9, thankfully! It's all kicking off. Pretty Petrelli just got arrested *gawps*, LovelyPsychicMatt's wife cheated on him *gasps* and does Mohinder ever make up his mind about anything? *shakes head*

So now I'm nearly up to speed, or I will be after a couple more binge sessions. Then I'll have to start waiting a whole week between fixes! *shudders at thought*

Okay, I've know watched all 13 episodes. That is all of them so far, isn't it?

Claude is just made of WOW. And I squeed the first time he spoke because The Eccleston kept his accent! And you were right about the interaction with Peter, I love watching the two of them together. And not just for aesthetic reasons. But, just, gah. So much has happened! Ohh, when Hiro couldn't save Charlie, that was too, too sad. And woot! Claire/ Zach (he's not meant to be gay, is he?)! And please give Mohinder a superpower. And I'm finding myself becoming strangely attracted to Nathan... because of/ in spite of the jaw, I know not. And ugh! Simone.

I think I have to start watching Gilmore Girls. Is this a good thing?

That's all there is. But to hold you over until Monday, you should watch the commentary on the two most recent episodes. Pure cracky gold.

I LOVED the part where he helps Peter escape Mohinder and Nathan. Seriously, my jaw just dropped at the awesome. The Hiro/Charlie storyline made me so incredibly weepy. The part with all the papercranes was so beautiful. Zach was supposed to be gay, but they just quietly wrote that out. *grins at Zach/Claire*

Nathan's jaw is an integral part of his personality. My sister and I refer to the two Petrellis as "Squarejaw & Flopsy." I'm not attracted to him so much as I am intrigued by what exactly his motives are. They had him set up as a slimy politician, but he's obviously not that 2-dimensional. As for him denying his powers, it's obviously for a good reason, what with Heidi being crippled and him not so much.

Gilmore Girls starts out really strong and then just sort of peters (harhar) out after Milo leaves the show. Seasons 1-3 are the best, season 4 is so-so. Season 5 is pretty good, and season 6 is sort of monstrous. But it's maddeningly addictive and very cute, so I think it's worth the watch. Milo being a bookish rebel without a cause is a MAJOR plus. :)

*runs off to do the commentary thing*
Also, *runs off with the phrase "Squarejaw and Flopsy"*

And the whole 'I'll-put-my-hand-over-your-mouth-because-we're-invisible-and-can't-make-noise-so-shhhh' thing was magnifique.

Hee, my friend used to live in Australia, and they have this crazy chocolate powder energy drink thing called.... Milo. So I've been watching Heroes while drinking a mug of Milo. It feels icky, but strangely right.

And finally *works out whether or not I can afford S2 of Gilmore Girls*
As the decider- what's Milo's hair like in it?

That... is... fantastic.

His hair is spiked for most of seasons 2 and 3, and decidedly less emo than Peter Petrelli. And this only gives me ample cause to make a mini!spam of Jess Mariano.

This is just one of his many adorkable facial expressions.
This is him pretending to be James Dean.
This has to be the cutest moment in the entire show.
This is the first of the hairstyles they give him in season 6. It's also one of his best character moments. They sort of fuck up his character in season 4, but totally redeem him in 6. In fact, it might be the only non-crappy part of season 6.

Yay, mini!spam! That is too cute. His hair looks so much more... volumised.

I do love me some Emo!Peter, though. It's the 'bangs' (Hee. Here, we say 'fringe'). Seriously, I love this guy so much I might actually pay money to see Rocky 6 at the cinema.

He hates the bangs. Proof positive.

♥ British colloquialisms.
