I Heart Tufty The Road Safety Squirrel

Oh my crikey, Life On Mars was good.
More Sam/Gene angst than you can shake a stick at! And a similarly generous amount of Sam/Gene manlove! And Philip Glenister in a squirrel costume!
Once again, clever police!plot (central heating!nice), but the thing that kills me most about this show is the character development. So, Sam can handle Gene (possibly) killing a man, but he can't handle thinking that Gene would take bribes again after he promised him he'd stop? My heart, show! You're breaking my heart! And then all the manlove in Sam's room... Sleepover! In vests! With banter! And the throwing of phones and the wall pinnage!
Also, I don't hate Ray anymore! And I haven't for some time! And I still love BabyChris as much as I ever did, the moreso because of his escalating professional crush on Sam. Seriously, he gets more awesome every week. Almost every episode, he's made some sort of progress, so I've got my fingers crossed he gets to do something good in the finale. But, this week, they're back to the incompetent partnership we know and love. Highlights include the worst stakeout ever, and the funniest staircase chase in television history. "Oh shit, they've doubled back!" And for Drama!, they lost faith in The Guv! Show, it hurts when you make me feel these sad emotions!
And, as happens every week, there were so many little moments that made the episode perfection:
Gene's sunglasses
The Tufty costume
Gene's stripy tie
Gene suddenly running away, with his hair flipping beautifully
Baby Chris' dancing
Gene blatantly looking Sam up and down outside the station
Gene's lawyer. Possibly the greatest lawyer in the history of time.
Tipsy Sam cracking onto Annie. "Staaaay". I heart John Simm forever. DW finale! Woop!
Gene snogging the luckiest old woman ever, then the exchange:
"Ooh, you filthy swine!"
"Ohhh yeah."
The line: "Ray, I've got a stitch!"
And now for the angst. Louise
templa_otmena and I have been predicting for months that Sam is going to have to bring down Gene in order to get home, and DCI Creepy McHyde basically confirmed our suspiscions. Christ, I'm already picturing My TV Boyfriend Philip Glenister's betrayed face! Especially after all the stuff this episode about trust and loyalty (and Gene said 'love'! 'Tis canon!)... I don't even want to contemplate how they're going to wrap it up, in case I accidentally get it right, but I know it'll be awesome. I just wish I was with my people, because I can't lust after Philip Glenister or ship Sam/Gene in front of my mother. And if I cry next week they'll laugh at me.
And I really must apologise for the obscene amount of exclamation marks in the above.
I just watched the Stephen Fry episode of Shrink Rap, and he broke my heart when he was talking about love. He said that when you fall in love, you finally understand what art is about, that you feel closer to Beethoven and literature and Caravaggio. He said that all the molecules in your body rise up towards this person, and you are never the same person again. He described the first boy he was in love with as 'intensely beautiful'. The man is so fucking eloquent and honest and accurate that it kills me.

Date: 2007-04-04 12:55 am (UTC)And I did see the show. Really amazing, although I couldn't help but thing Mrs. Billy Connolly whatsherface was sort of extraneous in the end...I found myself thinking I would have liked it more if it had just been him talking about his past on his own. I didn't like the way she handled him at points...like, he'd make it clear he'd made his peace with something even if his thought-pattern was unexpected, and she'd basically tell him what he should be thinking.
I ended up wanting to hit her, and hug him.

Date: 2007-04-04 01:03 am (UTC)I do like the series though, I'm really looking forward to the Robin Williams one.
And heart Alan and Stephen forever and ever and ever.

Date: 2007-04-04 01:17 am (UTC)The abuse thing was the bit that bothered me most. I would consider that to be a mentally healthy attitude to something that a lot of people would find tough to cope with, and you'd think a psychologist would leave well enough alone, but apparently not.
I missed the one that was on yesterday. I reckon I'll probably be less irritated by the rest of them, it was just that this time the 'patient' was so obviously more intelligent and together than the 'shrink' that it felt a bit pointless.

Date: 2007-04-04 09:15 pm (UTC)If I try and broach the slash topic with my sister, she looks at me like I'm retarded... And she thinks Philip Glenister and John Simm aren't hot! You see what I must deal with!
Also, yay! for House/ Wilson and their Balcony O' Love...
