500th Entry!
Mar. 24th, 2009 07:22 pmDUDE. 500 feels like a significant number, one that deserves something more important than the dross I'm about to spew out all over you. OH WELL.
Ohh, flist, I love you so! From the glorious
templa_otmena, my housemate, wifey, partner in crime and procrastination, who whispered in my ear of these things called 'userpics' and pointed me in the direction of
bbccostumedrama, to everyone who took pity on me in the early days when I had no clue what I was doing (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, O MERCIFUL ONES), and everyone else right through to today. Thank you for the flail, and the honesty, and the crazy excessive fandom love. ♥ OH YOU KIDS. GROUP HUGS ALL ROUND.
ANYWAY. My
inrevelations gift for
anythingbutgrey is up: nothing proved can be (in which there are windows, and Elizabeth I is fierce)
Also, BAFTA nominations are out! Yay for Ben Whishaw, The Devil's Whore, Outnumbered, Mad Men, Einstein and Eddington, THE OLYMPICS OMG, and other good tellystuffs.
Also also, because I forgot to mention it before and it amused me, I somehow came, like, fifth, in the March Madness Fandom Office Pool? RIGHTEOUS.
How are you? ♥

Date: 2009-03-24 07:48 pm (UTC)I... am failing at this LJ hiatus thing, but I'm actually doing "research" for religion class. By which I mean listening to The Prince of Egypt soundtrack and checking out old computer games we used to play in Sunday School after memorizing the books of the Bible and sucking on Jolly Ranchers. And I had this terrible overwhelming urge to talk about the crack theory of Baltar and Six being Abraham and Sarah today while talking about the roots of Judaism today, but refrained. (Also, as you are Catholic, give me some reasons why the RCC might not be as crazy as I think it is. I have to discuss empathy I may or may not have gained for it.)

Date: 2009-03-24 08:01 pm (UTC)Heee, The Prince of Egypt. HOW SO FIERCE, "PLAGUES"? Re: your BSG religious theories: I WOULD SUBSCRIBE TO THAT NEWSLETTER, DO PLEASE CONTINUE.
AHAHAHA, I AM SO NOT THE BEST PERSON TO DO THAT. The Catholic church is horrible, with all the wealth-hoarding and homophobia and sexism and anti-contraceptive bullshit. HORRIBLE. The only thing I like is the rituals, and that's just because I'm a weirdo. Well, that and Kate Beaton's JP2 comics. IT IS TOTALLY AS CRAZY AS YOU THINK IT IS. But Mary's pretty cool. Yeah, that's all I got.
ALSO, I AM FINALLY PROPERLY READING THE MISTS OF AVALON BECAUSE I HAVE NO INTERNET AT HOME, AND BLOODY. HELL. I just, I don't even know what to say. Poor Arthur :/

Date: 2009-03-24 08:16 pm (UTC)I think the person who brought the Abraham/Sarah thing up then proceeded to say that Baltar and Six are like 3,000 years too early for that, but really. God tells Baltar to bang a servant, and Baltar says "when do I start?" (Also, the concept of Baltar and Six's children amuses me. They might actually end up crazier than their parents, and I like it.)
Ugh, I really hate how I have to write this paper. I had to conduct an interview with someone who had a different religious upbringing than myself, and the girl I talked to was RC. I basically have to talk about how it gave me new insight and empathy and will help promote dialogue. But the problem with my specific interview was the girl was all "yeah, we suck." Heh, I'm totally with you, I find the actual ritual of the mass to be really interesting as I'm assuming it's still mostly in its medieval format, but that also illustrates my problem with the church. It's in its medieval format.
OH WHAT PART ARE YOU UP TO? Even though Guinevere makes me want to punch things a lot in that, I feel like the book's a like Gone with the Wind in that the men are the weaker lot, while the women haul all of the weight.

Date: 2009-03-24 10:32 pm (UTC)And yeah, so I am a threadeavesdropper but I am Roman Catholic too, or at least raised that way, and currently conflicted about whether it's more accurate now to say I'm Roman Catholic or lapsed or what, but I love the rituals too. Half of the reason I still occasionally go to Mass is that, and half is the singing, and half is that the church near me is very communal and chill, and that makes three halves.
There was a discussion about this on Jezebel, and someone was saying that for them, Catholicism is entirely a cultural thing, somewhat similar to Judaism, in that while of course it is a religion, there are also cultural aspects, and it's that they identify with, having been raised Catholic, and not necessarily anything doctrinal. And that's more or less how I feel too.

Date: 2009-03-24 11:40 pm (UTC)It makes me happy to hink that had our paths not crossed in rl, we probably would have come across each other over here. You were a time bomb, Rochester just hastened things along.
And as for teaching, the Padawan became the Master looong ago. HTML, baby. You know where it's at.
Mwah!mwah!mwah!

Date: 2009-03-26 03:58 am (UTC)Ohhhh, your analogy just makes me think of that time we were walking to Spar and it hit me in a flash that ANAKIN KILLED OBI-WANNNNNN. Also, you know when you save things, you don't need to write out 'underscore' in full. AND ALSO PRESSING ENTER MAKES DVDS PLAY.
