+ HEY IAN MCSHANE, glad to see you're still intensely awesome
Firstly, this has served as yet another painful reminder that I really need to work on watching past S1 of the glorious Deadwood. BUT HOMG, SILAS. So effing hardcore. Did he really have someone assassinated for, like, standing up before him? Did that actually happen? AND HE TOTALLY PULLED THE ROYAL 'WE' ON DAVID AND IT WAS AWESOME. AWESOME. And I'm intruiged by his ~secret family drama~ and adorable!illegitimate!son and skeezy brother-in-law. And, y'know, IAN MCSHANE IS MORE HARDCORE THAN MOST PEOPLE CAN EVEN DREAM OF BEING. Even his hair exudes power. IDK. It's magnificent.

HEY IT'S CHRIS EGAN WHAT USED TO BE ON HOME & AWAY! This is simultaneously rather amusing (Nick from Home & Away! And he was in fucking Eragon!) and rather impressive, because awwww, Nick from Home & Away being on proper grown-up interesting telly! ANYWAY. I was actually surprised by how much I liked David; he appears to be a genuinely good person, and he's all blonde and looked adorable basically all the time (Dress blues! Suit!) and HOMG THE PIANO SCENE. Yeah, that did all kinds of things to me. IT'S THE SCRIPPS THINGS, OKAY, PIANO HANDS OF SEX AND WHAT HAVE YOU. And I don't know if that was actually Chris Egan (very likely not), but he seemed to be doing at least a passable impression of playing along, and wiki says he sings so he must be vaguely musical, right? ANYWAY. SEXY. His press conference was brilliant. I really liked the interplay between him and Eli (RIP Eli, you were kind of righteous!). And then, that scene with the bloodsoaked sheet and yelling at the tanks? Usually, that kind of thing would pull me right out of engagement with the show and leave me kind of bemused, but this was weirdly very effective for me. Like, ridiculously so, with the rain and the music and the walking and the stark, stark image of him against all this mist and mud with the sheet. And the dialogue was so strange and formal; I can completely see why people might find it overdone and pompous, and it sounds so stupid to say, but it struck me as almost Shakespearean:

Hmm, this one's tricky. Because the Jack and Silas scene on the steps where Silas gets all "You can't be gay and be King like me, put it on ice, stamp it out, MANLY REPRESSION AND GROWLING FTW" was brilliant, and YAY GAY PRINCES, but the reveal with creepy William (is that his name? The corporate brother-in-law fucker?) provisionally positions Jack as the opposition/potential villan/whatever, and I'm really not crazy about Evil Gay Syndrome. Some more Jack/David interaction should be interesting, though.
+ Reverend Samuels
HARDCORE. AGAIN. So many awesome characters, it's very exciting! Love his interactions with Silas (YEAH, YOU'RE NOT GOD'S KING ANYMORE, DEAL WITH IT); love his interactions with David. Seriously, was the whole faux-anointing, oily forehead smearing scene in the garage supposed to be hot? Because it was kind of really really hot.
+ Michelle
I don't have any particularly strong Michelle feelings either way; she's pretty cute, and nicely earnest, and she and David are sweet together, although I'm not especially buying the strength of their connection so quickly. Whatever, they're harmless enough, and the scene with all the confetti and then MAKEOUTS! was nice.
+ Queen Rose
Wow, I cannot get a handle on her AT ALL, but I suspect she may have murky Machiavellian depths. She keeps saying she stays out of politics, and I'm not sure I belive her; I feel like the whole assistant/cellphone/bra thing was a set-up, some sort of MY SON'S HETEROSEXUALITY, LET ME SHOW YOU IT type thing? IDK. I am excited by the powerful lady, though. INTRUIGING. And is she evil corporate CROSSGEN bastard's sister?
I am crazy eager to see how this develops. Not least because Macauley Culkin is apparently guesting at some point, WHAT WHAT. One thing I will say, though, is DEAR GOD EASE UP ON THE ANVIL!BUTTERFLIES. Butterflies! Everywhere! (See: this icon's keyword)
