OH GOD SHOW, JUST BREAK MY HEART ALL OVER THE PLACE. Destroying my soul this week:
+ GAIUS BALTAR MADE ME CRY. I'm not sure this has ever happened before. The Gauis/Caprica scene (OH YOU CRAZY KIDS), when she tells him she has no desire to join his harem, and he tears up and just kind of goes "That's not - that's not what I -" and TEARS, I AM CRYING TEARS OVER GAIUS BALTAR. Also, I think it's all kind of compounded by my growing sexy feelings for James Callis (he did my degree!); is it just me, or has he been looking extra cheekbone-y of late? ANYWAY. Crying. That is my point.
+ KARA THRACE, KARA THRACE. At this point, I don't even have the words any more. SHE PUT HER OWN PICTURE ON THE WALL.
+ God, I just don't have the energy to go on properly listing all the things that made me sad this week, because it was basically EVERYONE. Tigh and Adama's incredible manlove. Adama and Roslin and the cabin. Helo. Lee being so earnest with Kara - "Don't care." Whatever the fuck Sam has become. Boomer and Hera. Just, GOD, SHOW. THE FUCKING GALACTICA DIED. AND IT'S ONLY GOING TO GET SADDER.
I finally got to see Frost/Nixon at YSC on Monday night, and I loved it wildly. Matthew Macfadyen was fantastic; he seems to always have ridiculous hair but he has the nicest smile, and him running into the sea at the end was delightful. And, trite as it may be, the film had one of my absolute favourite tropes, whereby the previously somewhat disaffected guy actually starts giving a shit and EVERYTHING GETS HARDCORE. Michael Sheen is so awesome. The Watergate interview, oh my days - I was leaning so far forward in my seat, it was amazingly tense. Yay Sam Rockwell, just in general. Also, and this will surprise nobody who's ever read this journal before, OH MY LORD MY ALL-TIME NUMBER ONE FOREVER GIRL CRUSH REBECCA HALL WAS RADIANTLY LOVELY.
I am pretty damn happy with how that turned out, but more than that I'm excited for the DVD. MOAR MINUTEMEN PLEASE. Pretty much all the main cast were awesome; I wasn't all that fussed on Malin Akerman, but she had fantastic hair and boots so I'm easy. Billy Crudup's lovely melancholy voice made me feel much less frustrated at Jon than I did in the book, which was unexecpected and pleasing. I was really chuffed that MmmGoode did so well with Veidt; he was kind of still, and he seemed so sad and did a lot with his eyes, so yeah. The boy done good. Patrick Wilson! Ohh, Dan. At least two of my housemates didn't realise he was Raoul, so props to him for awesome (and let us all take a moment to LOL again at the Raoul!hair). JACKIE EARLE HALEY, HOW SO MAGNIFICENT, SIR? And, as others have noticed, disturbingly pretty eyes, WHAT.
I was supposed to go and see Defiance at YSC tonight, but in the end we opted to stay in and watch Milk. OHH, MY SOUL. Everything was lovely (James Franco and his haaair!). I especially loved Emile Hirsch as Cleve Jones, wiggling away in his jeans and awesome glasses. And Lucas Grabeel, being as adorable as he ever is (VERY). And Diego Luna being a hilarious douchebag until suddenly it wasn't hilarious at all. AND VICTOR GARBER. AND HOPE. Yeah. I had to go and rewatch Dustin Lance Black's Oscar speech again.
Also, Scott Grimes (MALARKEY!) is Ridley Scott's Will Scarlett! I AM JOYFUL.
Also also, I stumbled across this vid via recs and I want to make everyone in the world watch it because it is THAT GOOD. It's Vienna Teng, and it's Closer, which is a film I love and adore for how fucked-up everyone is, and how awesome Larry and Alice are and how pathetic Dan and Anna are. OH OH OH. And the use of "The Blower's Daughter", but that isn't relevant to THIS VID THAT YOU NEED TO WATCH.
How are you? ♥
