Okay, I will state for the record that my quoting of a Ricky Martin/Christina Aguilera duet in my title is tongue-in-cheek. You have to imagine me singing it while holding back incredibly fake sobs, okay?

It's so nearly the end of term, and once again (shock horror!), Sophie is conflicted. One one hand, I'm pretty much burnt out at this point, and I could definitely do with five weeks off to clear my head. And sleep. On the other, five weeks off entails five weeks away from The Fax, and five weeks away from my girlies. I'll see people a few times (London! Six sleeps!), but it's completely not the same as living with people and being able to bang on their door and pester them whenever you feel like it. And it'll be great to see my group back at home, but even at Christmas it felt like some of us were drifting apart. Meh. Angst.

Anyway, I'll have to use a big part of the holiday to get up-to-date with next term's reading, not to mention the Devilish Italian. True to gimpy form, Gimpy Brian hasn't yet put up my reading list, but Austen is a given. I've got my fingers crossed for Persuasion. And I don't know *anyone* in my seminar group. Curses.

In other news, I need to stop watching new TV shows on the internet, because it invariably ends in addiction. To fill the hiatus-induced Heroes void, I have turned to Friday Night Lights. Now, American 'football' (AKA rugby for scardey-cats) is possibly one of the things I am least interested in in the world, so imagine my surprise when I completely fell in love with the show. [livejournal.com profile] thedreamygirl, I am eternally grateful.

Good lord. There is so much to love about this show. For a start, even if I wasn't completely involved with the characters and plots, I'd watch it for the cinematography. It kinda reminds me of Firefly; everything's handheld and spontaneous, lots of camera flares. The first episode made me cry, and I very rarely cry at TV shows, especially if I've only seen three-quarters of an hour.

Okay, favourite characters. Coach Taylor is love. Especially Kyle Chandler's hair. It deserves all the attention it gets, I'm telling you. It's champion. And here's the proof.

Matt Saracen is possibly the sweetest, most awkward, most realistic teenage boy I've ever seen on TV. Also, I'm completely in love with him. And not just because he's hot. And Matt/Julie makes my face hurt from smiling. And he's really hot.

I really like the whole Texan manners thing. In the UK, nobody calls anybody 'Ma'am' or 'Sir' (apart from, like, the queen), let alone teenagers. Politeness is nice.

Also, I now care about American 'football'... But only in the context of the show. All the jargon that gets used shows you how it's a lot more complex than just throwing a ball around and running screaming at the other side. And because it's Texas, and because it's a close community, the amount of pressure these boys are under is just heartbreaking. She says, as she reminds herself of their fictionality. Sigh.

My Emma is coming to stay today! Last big night out of term, because everyone's packing tomorrow. Thus, everywhere will be choc-a-bloc. And sweaty. And awesome. And it's Izzy's birthday (25!*gasp*), so cocktails must be consumed. It's weird Emma coming, it's like if my two world collide it'll be a paradox and the world will end. And then home on Saturday. Sigh.

Ooh, and last night we went to the choir concert in the Minster. Mozart's Requiem. Fucking Amazing.

Funnily enough back home in Sri Lanka we call everyone older than us aunty or uncle or if you're a bit more westernised (like we were going to international school :P) ma'am or sir so its weird for me when people dont do that here. But yes I love texan manners. And you are very welcome. :D - now you will believe me when I say you must see TBD also!
Kyle Chandler is king of awesomeness - thanks for that link!
You dont know anyone? :( Maybe I do! Tell me their names!
Sorry for the angst - but i felt like that when i went home in christmas so its possibly a good thing I'm not going home.

I used to like that Ricky and Xtina song.

I have a feeling that Easter is going to disappear in front of my laptop screen... I promise I will watch TBD and innundate you with the inevitable squeeage soon after.
I can't remember any names, it was just sort of...'I recognise NO ONE'

Oh I will be the same way!
Oh no poor you Sophie! :( I was thinking maybe if you remember names perhaps I might know someone so I can tell you "no, they are really nice!" but I doubt you did.
I actually wont be in Yorkland for the whole 5 weeks; I'll be going to Lancs to see my Grandmother (+aunts, uncles & 5 little - and very loud - cousins) and I'll be there for about 2 weeks and I'll also go up to Edin again to see my big sister, but I still haven't bought any tickets and dont know what day I am going *lol*
