Music meme! Because all the cool kids are doing it. And I am, indeed, cool. Obviously.
List your 10 favourite bands/ artists in any order, and then answer the questions.
1. Muse
2. Regina Spektor
3. Damien Rice
4. Bloc Party
5. Jeff Buckley
6. Franz Ferdinand
7. Radiohead
8. The Futureheads
9. The Smiths
10. Arcade Fire
What was the first song you ever heard by 4 (Bloc Party)?
Probably "Helicopter", although it might have been "So Here We Are". Either way, excellent introduction to an excellent band.
What is your favourite album of 8 (The Futureheads)?
That would be... The Futureheads
What is your favourite lyric that 5 (Jeff Buckley) has sung?
I hate to be so unoriginal, but it's got to be from Hallelujah:
'I've seen your flag on the marble arch/ And love is not a victory march/ It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah'
How many times have you seen 7 (Radiohead) live?
Just the once, at V2006, and it was incredible. 7 people from the front! In a field of 50,000 people! And they played Creep! And Fake Plastic Trees!
What is your favourite song of 10 (Arcade Fire)?
It was always "Wake Up", because it makes my heart sing. "Tunnels" is also completely gorgeous, though.
What is a good memory you have concerning the music of 6 (Franz Ferdinand)?
I suppose just dancing like a mutha each of the four times I've seen them. The first time was especially amazing, though, because I was with my Faye, and we just kept grabbing each other and screaming because Nick was doing one-handed keyboard dancing (still a popular move in our repertoire).
Is there a song of 1 (Muse) that makes you sad?
"Falling Away With You", just because it starts out so delicate and low-key (well, for Muse anyway) and the guitar figure is so beautiful and the lyric 'I'll love whatever you've become/ Forget the reckless things we've done'...
What is your favourite song by 9 (The Smiths)?
This is the hardest band to answer that for! Although "How Soon Is Now" is the first one that I fell for hard, it has since been tainted by Charmed... "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" is perfection, beautifully morbid and warped and gorgeous.
How did you get into 3 (Damien Rice)?
Erm, I just think from the constant ads on TV... I just bought the album on a whim, and it broke me. Then, along came Closer...
What was the first song you've heard by 1 (Muse)?
That would be "In Your World". It was on a random compilation called The Album, and it was so sweeping and mental that I was in love.
What is your favourite song by 4 (Bloc Party)?
So many... I suppose it's hard to beat "Banquet" for a bit of sexy mental dancing, but "This Modern Love" is true to the point of ridiculousness. Off the new album, I love "I Still Remember".
What is a good memory you have concerning 5 (Jeff Buckley)?
Not of him particularly, because the beautiful man died when I was six, but his music definitely has memories of everyone slumped in someone's living room after a party, nearly asleep.
Is there a song of 8 (The Futureheads) that makes you sad?
Not really, they're a bit lively really. They're too angular to be sad. Also, their harmonies are insane.
What is your favourite song of 6 (Franz Ferdinand)?
"Take Me Out" is still a classic. "Michael" is still the sex. "Outsiders" sounds like Blondie, but messed up. "Eleanor Put Your Boots On" is sweet and soaring. And "This Fire" reminds me of the ends of gigs.
How many times have you seen 8 (The Futureheads) live?
Almost once. They were on at Leeds, but everyone else wanted to see The Automatic... I got half the set, but I missed everyone singing along to "Hounds Of Love". One of my biggest regrets in life... Seriously.
What is your favourite album of 7 (Radiohead)?
I, like the British public, am torn between The Bends and OK Computer. The Bends has "Fake Plastic Trees", OK Computer has "Karma Police"... And "Lucky", and "No Surprises"... I'm going with OK Computer.
What's your favourite song by 2 (Regina Spektor)?
Aww, she's been neglected by the questions. "Samson", no question. The piano is so simple, and her voice is just... anguished.
In other news, new Life On Mars tonight! It's ridiculous how much I love that show. I think a lot of it is to do with the relationship between Sam and Gene, with all its levels of faith and mistrust and understanding and (repressed manly) love. I hate it when they go up against each other, but I love it because of all the angst! John Simm and My TV Boyfriend Philip Glenister both give such incredibly good angst! I'm just so excited to see how they're going to wrap up the series. There wil be betrayal, and repressed manly love, and angst, it is certain.
Except, I have to tape it tonight because of the retarded Neighbours Soc social. Grrr. It's gone downhill hand in hand with the bloody show. And I miss Shane. Grrr.
Ooh, and I had a really funny moment walking down the road to Spar with Louise yesterday. We'd watched Revenge Of The Sith on Friday, and enjoyed it, especially the manly Obi-Wan/ Anakin angst (issues? Me?)... I suddenly 'realised' that Anakin kills Obi-Wan and started wailing. Now, I've seen the film before. I own the DVDs. I already knew that that happened. I have no idea why it didn't connect on Friday night, and I certainly don't know why I 'remembered' on the way to Spar. Anyway, it's very very very sad indeed. Heartbreaking, even. Definitely more than the lame-ass Padme romance.

Date: 2007-03-13 11:26 am (UTC)And the line from Hallelujah isn't unoriginal - its just a classic!
What ads did they use Damien Rice for?

Date: 2007-03-13 04:24 pm (UTC)I can't imagine what sort of product would be advertised by Damien Rice, though. Razor blades? But, like, really beautiful ones? Maybe with a conditioning strip so that you want to kill yourself and yet enjoy the experience on some level?
Also, I'm completely not in love with Matt. At all. *points at icon*

Date: 2007-03-13 05:03 pm (UTC)Completley not in love? That was a typo right?

Date: 2007-03-13 05:12 pm (UTC)The boy is too pretty for his own good. Also, I love the Texan manners on that show. Like when they're lifting Jason off the field and you can hear him say "Thank you"? *breaks down crying again*
But, yeah. I have a Matt problem.

Date: 2007-03-13 05:47 pm (UTC)OMG I know! It's so unbelievably loveable the way they have good manners. I have a Matt problem, as well as a Coach Taylor problem. *sigh*
How far are you up to now?
Oh, and once you get up to speed on FNL (or even before that) you have to start The Black Donnellys. I have a Tommy Donnelly problem after only one episode and I am pretty sure you will too.
BTW I made an update at the community were I post my icons

Date: 2007-03-13 06:06 pm (UTC)And CT, with the match mike on? Smokin'. I've still only seen 1 and 3, but I've been cheating on TWoP, mainly Matt/Julie stuff...
Black Donnellys, you say? What's that about?
no subject
Date: 2007-03-13 06:17 pm (UTC)So smokin. Did you not do the early morning download thing? Tut.
Well there was a thing a long time ago in Canada about an Irish family called the Donnells who were massacred I believe but this is not to be confused with that. The only thing in common is the name. Anyways, the Donnellys are a family of 4 brothers who live in New York and are of Irish descent - basically their people immigrated and in they live in an area where all the other immigrants live and there's a sort of rivalry between the Irish and the Italians. Tommy Donnelly is the "good" brother who is trying to get an education and not get caught up with all the stealing and bad stuff that goes on but he will have to choose between being the good guy or protecting his family from the Italian mob-like guys. Olivia Wilde aka Alex from The O.C. is in it, but she's much better in this I think.
And if you think the FNL pilot made you cry wait until you see TBD.
NBC is showing some good stuff this year (as in, they air Heroes, FNL and TBD).

Date: 2007-03-13 03:55 pm (UTC)'Michael' is indeed the sex, and you know how I feel about Mr. Buckley. I'm tempted to do this one myself, but I'm listening to Go West right now, and I fear judgement. But you love what you love!

Date: 2007-03-13 06:47 pm (UTC)Apart from Damien Rice, whose music I already know and like muchly.
Ahhh, and I love Hallelujah, although I've only heard the Leonard Cohen (noooo) and Rufus Wainwright (yayyy) versions.
