The minute you begin to trust it, it will turn around and kick you in the balls.

After the travesty that was last term's Meet Me In The Bathroom, we'd been steering clear of student productions. This term, the outlook was much brighter; Stone Cold Dead Serious was both hilarious and heartbreaking, and Mad Forest was just incredible. Thus reassured, we unwisely decided to check out The Madman And The Nun.

Watching TMATN wasn't so much a theatrical experience as it was an exercise in morbid fascination, coupled with a desire for it to be over very, very quickly. It managed the double whammy of being both meaningless and badly acted. And it included performances by not one, not two, but THREE original cast members of Meet Me In The Bathroom.

Afterwards, we felt the need to cheer ourselves up with a trip to Borders, for cleansing purposes. Emma and I are currently on something of a play binge (Tom Stoppard = God), so I got a Brian Friel collection and she got some Tom Stoppard. I'll just quickly shout out to Arcadia, which I finished today. It was, quite simply, immense. Not just in terms of subject matter and dialogue, but in the staging, and just... Sigh. Also, the original cast included Rufus Sewell, Bill Nighy and Samuel West. None more OBASC could it be.

Oh, and I got my Whitman essay back. I did a lot better than I thought I had, 2 marks off a First. Woop. Now I face the terrifying prospect of Group Tutorial. Golly gosh.
