Ah yes, I see what you mean. But there is a sense of maternal affection and understanding that comes across. [grief I sound so PRETENTIOUS, sorry!]
The thing about Guy is that it's a challenge not to write him as a complete sap, to try and capture all his facets. Guess that's partly because I'm a girl trying to write from a bloke's point of view, which is always challenging.
It is far far too easy to write him as a soppy twat, all OH MARIAN I LOVE YOU AND WILL DO NOTHING EXCEPT ANGST OVER YOU. Which , you know, is PART of the character but only part. :)
