Rating: PG, for snogging
Word Count: 804
Summary: April 2017. Victoire comes of age. Sequel to Howling. Lyrical inspiration: Bloc Party, Blue Light

“Happy birthday, dear Viiiiic-toirrre,
Happy birthday to you!”
The kitchen of The Burrow exploded into cheers as Victoire Weasley leant forward, grinning, to blow out her seventeen candles. James stuck his fingers into his mouth and whistled loudly, earning himself a Look from Ginny; Hugo and Albus, flailing wildly, appeared to performing a celebratory tribal dance; her father kissed her on the top of the head and whispered “Congratulations, sweetheart.”
Teddy Lupin was leaning against the dresser, his turquoise hair artfully dishevelled, and something about the way he was looking at her made Victoire hide behind her sheet of strawberry-blonde hair so her mother wouldn’t see her blushing. She could feel the note in her pocket. It’s important, he’d said when he slipped it into her hand, with something in his eyes that she couldn’t read. Teddy was up to something.
It was hours before they could get away. Teddy shot her increasingly impatient looks until finally, while her mother was asking Hermione about Victor Krum, he stepped over Freddie, curled up in front of the fire with cake in his hair, grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the door.
Laughing, they ducked through the hedge and ran across the field.
“Are you going to tell me what we’re doing?” demanded Victoire breathlessly, as Teddy came to a halt. He turned to look at her, still holding her hand, and she felt her knees weaken ever-so-slightly, the way they always did when she saw his flushed cheeks and bright eyes.
“D’you know what tonight is?” he asked earnestly. Victoire looked up at the dark sky.
“Full moon.”
“It’s the full -” Teddy began, before he broke off, glaring at her. “You’re ruining the moment. You’re supposed to say ‘my birthday,’ and then I say ‘full moon.’ Don’t you remember?”
A slow smile spread across Victoire’s face.
“It’s not funny!” protested Teddy, as she bit back a giggle.
“I know. You’re lovely. Come here,” she said, stretching up to plant a kiss on the tip of his nose. “Start again, go on.”
“Humph,” said Teddy, looking rather pleased, “All right. D’you know what tonight is?”
“It’s my birthday,” managed Victoire, before she dissolved into laughter. Teddy let out an anguished groan and collapsed into the grass, dramatically. She sank down beside him, still gasping, and lay still until the hiccups had subsided. He hadn’t moved.
She turned her face towards them and studied the highlights the moon was picking out in his strange, beautiful hair. He shifted slightly, glancing at her before looking away again quickly, a smile playing around the corners of his mouth.
“I got you a present,” he said, and Victoire rolled onto her side, propping herself up on her elbow to look down into his face.
“You got me something?” she asked, grinning, and Teddy sat up, rummaging in his pocket to produce something that glinted in the pale light. It was a bracelet, delicate and tarnished.
“Give me your arm,” he said, and Victoire stuck it out obligingly. He fastened the bracelet for her, and she shivered as his fingers brushed the inside of her wrist.
“It’s beautiful,” she said softly. “What is it?”
“Moonstone,” said Teddy, smirking slightly. “Happy birthday, Vic.”
Victoire looked at the milky stones and back at Teddy, and all of a sudden she had her hands in his hair and she was kissing him. In an instant, his arms were tight around her, his mouth moving against hers, and she could feel him smiling. He tasted like cake, which was nice.
They rolled over and over in the grass; they were tangled together. Victoire felt slightly dazed; the only thing she knew was Teddy, and Teddy’s lips on her neck, and Teddy’s hand sliding over the flat of her stomach. She sighed. Teddy growled against her throat.
“Wait, was that - did you growl at me?”
“I can’t help it, I’m an animal.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. Victoire started laughing so hard she couldn’t breathe.
“I think you made my lung explode,” she gasped. “Oh, it hurts.”
“Well, that’s flattering,” muttered Teddy.
As she calmed down, Victoire became very aware of his arm in the grass, an inch from hers. She reached out and entwined her fingers with his long ones.
“You’re glowing, you know,” said Teddy.
When Victoire opened her eyes, the first thing she noticed was that the sky was blue. The second thing she noticed was that Freddie was standing over them, jigging about like he was being bitten by fleas.
“Everyone’s looking for you two, you know. Did you sleep out here? Was it cold? Why are you holding hands?”
Beside her, Teddy let out a loud groan that sounded like it came from somewhere painful. Victoire looked down at her bracelet, grinned, and went back to sleep.
And you didn't even notice
When the sky turned blue
And you couldn't tell the difference
Between me and you
And I nearly didn't notice
The gentlest feeling

Date: 2007-08-18 10:06 pm (UTC)Capital letter ftw, heehee!
LOL. I can imagine JKR herself writing something like that.
I fancy Teddy Lupin. Like, a whole lot. So much that it's almost embarrasssing, because, I mean...you shouldn't really fancy fictional characters to the extent that I do. Oh, hell, maybe you should. And he is basically a younger version of Lupin with colourful hair. I think it is justified.
Example:
My reaction: "Nguh."
And the way he grabs her hand! I wish someone would grab my hand. It strikes me as similar to how Lupin grabbed Tonks' wrist when they had to run out of The Burrow from Harry's party in DH. Like father, like son =D
HEE.
HEE again. And, aww, he IS lovely. And so is she. This fic is so scrumptious!
I SERIOUSLY LOVE THEM. Did I mention that I love them? Teddy is a bit of a drama queen.
Again, nguh. I really want a Teddy Lupin of my very own.
The kissing killed me ded. MASSIVE NGUH.
HEH classic. I know the lung-exploding feeling well.
Also, I wish that ff.net would hurry up and add next-gen names to their dropdown menu for Harry Potter characters, because I'm sure there's lots of fic that I can't find.
I'm going to have to write Teddy/Victoire now. You've unintentionally poked me to do it.
MORE. We need more sequels! You are not allowed to stop until you have written all of the things they could possibly do in this field including but not limited to: proposals, wedding....erm..."Teddy, I'm pregnant!"-ings x20 and..."We're going to be grandparents!"-ings and...okay, okay, I'm being silly now. But you COULD. *dramatic nudgewink*
So how old are they if it's 2017? *does maths* Erm...Teddy was born in April 1998...so he'd be very-late-18 going on 19 here? And this is Victoire's 18th birthday, right? And how old were they in the last one? It was Harry's ...*goes to look*...33rd birthday...so that would be summer...2013? So Teddy would be 15 and Victoire would be 14. Okay, I feel better now I've worked the timing out. I'm a geek like that with timelines =P So this is set the April after the Epilogue then? Easter hols at Hogwarts in her last year?
Okay, I am analysing it way too much and rambling an incessant amount. I'LL SHUT UP NOW. THE FIC IS AMAZING AND KEEP IT UP.
*massive applause*

Date: 2007-08-18 10:20 pm (UTC)Ach, I fancy Teddy too. Even though all the canon we have is some reported speech and a baby picture. AND OUR IMAGINATIONS *dirty thoughts* And he's totally a Marauder. Actually, I feel ashamed because I'm just stealing all the bits of characters I love- he secretly messes up his hair like James.
So the kissing was okay? *relief* I'm so crap at writing kissing.
WRITE THE FIC. You know it makes sense. We shall prod each other ever further towards insanity :)
I *think* Victoire's two years younger than Teddy, because when he's 19 she's in seventh year, i.e. 17. And wizards come of age at 17, so this is Easter Holidays, sixth year. In my head, anyway. It stressed me out, thinking of that.
In conclusion: yay!
*takes bow*

Date: 2007-08-18 10:45 pm (UTC)So Epilogue is September 2017, right? And Teddy's 19 then obviously...yep, sorry, I was wrong before...this is before the Epilogue, then. It never actually says that it's Victoire's last year, I don't think, but, yeah, I assume it was, since you'd think she wouldn't be more than 2 yrs younger than Teddy, Bill and Fleur already being married before DH ends. And the fact that they're talking about them getting married and stuff...wouldn't really be happening if she was only in sixth year or something.
So (again, just talking it out in my head) Victoire is 17 in September that year and hence this fic - April 2017 - IS her 17th birthday, in the middle of her sixth year. And Teddy is still 18, pretty much (or already 19). And in the fic before, Teddy is still 15 but Victoire is 13, yeah. OKAY I'VE GOT IT FINALLY LOL. That took long enough.
BACK TO THE ACTUAL REVIEWINGNESS:
YES, IMAGINATIONS!! *has dirty thoughts too*
I know, me too. HELL WE DESERVE IT. Teddy is like the ONE consolation we get for all of the deaths, there's nothing wrong with making him suitably perfect! He's got lots of Remus, but also some Sirius, and James with the hair. And also he's got some of Fred in him. JUST BECAUSE *WEEPS*
Yeah, the kissing was fine. It is weird to write stuff like that, I agree. But if you leave it kind of...vague and general, then it's alllll good, lol. Not that yours was too vague. But I think with kissing, less is more. I just think you don't need to describe it all in excruciating detail, because then there's alwyas the danger that it becomes gross and people get freaked out. So yours was a perfect balance =)
I am writing some. Right now.

Date: 2007-08-18 11:00 pm (UTC)OHH, FRED. Come back to us. OMG prank!fic! Although that would involve concocting a prank.
there's alwyas the danger that it becomes gross and people get freaked out
LOLZ
Ooh, what's the gist? *needs Teddy crack NOW*
Woop woop!

Date: 2007-08-18 11:15 pm (UTC)I didn't explain it very well and that was pretty incoherent but I will probably change a lot before I post it anyway so never mind, lol. And having said that I got distracted by the prompt on
PRANK!FIC. WRITE IT NOW. NOWNOWNOW. Oh, it can be like OH OH IT CAN BE LIKE IN THE LION KING WHEN MUFASA IS TEACHING SIMBA TO POUNCE (ON ZAZU). AND TEDDY CAN BE TEACHING LITTLE FRED TO...."POUNCE". OR WHATEVER THE WIZARDING EQUIVALENT OF POUNCING IS. Some kind of spell.
MAYBE IT'S A PRANK ON VICTOIRE. Just because. I couldn't think where else she would come in. Unless she's an accomplice and they're like Jim and Pam from The Office. *flails*
PRANK!FIC. I'm so excited. Do it!

Date: 2007-08-18 11:20 pm (UTC)Ooh, that sounds righteous. I'm not sure about Hogsmeade, it seems pretty random. They usually go in October, don't they? And Valentine's day? So maybe twice a term?
BEST DYNASTY EVER.

Date: 2007-08-18 11:32 pm (UTC)GENIUS!!!
SERIOUSLY. And people say the Epilogue sucks! LOOK WHAT IT'S STARTED. I didn't think it was that bad anyway. I expected a big, cheesy finale from the beginning.

Date: 2007-08-19 11:44 am (UTC)Also, I started another! No pranking yet, I think that'll be the next one. Victoire's trying to revise, but someone's distracting her...

Date: 2007-08-19 02:26 pm (UTC)September 24th? RIGHTEOUS. And Claire's got a fella who isn't her uncle. And is Mohinder back in India now? Sans Molly? *thwarted* And did it look like Peter was on the subway with some people? Analysis, please!
no subject
Date: 2007-08-19 03:54 pm (UTC)I was poking around at some of the other clips, and Molly is in them. I guess she just can't go to lectures. I'll have to watch it again... like that's a struggle. Starting with the new stuff:
- There's a pretty garden thing. That might be something to do with Hiro's story since it made me think of those Japanese gardens.
- Claire and Boy making out... I'm assuming.
- Niki leaving Micah - I've been reading spoilers and there's a general consensus that Niki's story line gets better in this season which I hope is true 1. because I hate being bored during the show and 2. I like Ali as an actress and Noah is adorable, but they were REALLY boring.
- Nathan (sans beard!) through some red glass! Mysterious!
- Claire and Boy. I heard Boy has a power. If you care to know, I know what it is.
- Really ridiculous delivery of the line "NO WAI!" by Claire. And it looks like she's looking at something. Probably some porn Noah's stashed.
- Awesome Japanese armor shit. I am SO pumped for Hiro's storyline this season, even if there's no Ando. Although it looks like he's back as well from the other previews I've watched. As well as Papa Nakamura.
- Grinning!Hiro! So cute!
- Mohinder... in a wifebeater... on the phone. Wasn't that ALL of last season? But who's on the other end?
- MATT IS BACK. I don't even care that DL's gone. MATT IS BACK.
- AND HRG. Or Noah, whichever you prefer. I so thought he was going to die in the season 1 finale. In fact, I was expecting a lot more death. Of Epic Harry Potter Proportion.
- Sylar... in dream land? It looks like he's got a Hawaiian shirt on... and a girl, WTF? So maybe he's slipped into retirement in Florida.
- Scroll-y-thing with Japanese, I'm assuming. Still pumped for Hiro. And the Super Petrelli Bros. And Claire and Spy Daddy. And Matt being back. And the possibility of Mohinder adopting Molly. Or just the entire season in general.
- Claire, I'm assuming, talking to Noah. And there's a shot of Boy.
- MATT. Seriously, Greg is the shit and I heart him.
- Niki and Micah hugs in a graveyard. DL?
- Matt talking to Mama Petrelli about REVENGE. Is Matt going to have to cut a bitch? Bitch being Mama P?
- KISSY KISSY. Okay, I will stop being five.
- That guy from Alias that everyone seems to be super pumped about.
- PETER? Getting a hug? But from WHOM? It looks like they have a hoodie on, now that I look more closely, so my original theory that it was Nathan is gone. Is it an uncle and niece reunion that will likely send the sillier part of the interwebz into a squeeing frenzy? < / Casey McCall >
- Shot of someone's eyes... they have nicer eyebrows than me.
- Mohinder... still in a wifebeater, but in India. I liked his India stuff best anyway, so good times.
- Claire with an "OMG" face. And Boy. Seriously, is this all they're doing with her this season? No wacky Petrelli fun? Or even wacky Bennet fun with Noah, Sandra, Lyle, and Mr. Muggles?
- HORSE! JAPAN! HISTORICAL FUN FOR MORGAN!
- Andddddd... Mohinder lecturing, possibly in India. Word to Prof. Suresh.
Also, what was up with the LotR-like music?
no subject
Date: 2007-08-19 07:34 pm (UTC)-WHAT DOES THE BOY DO?
-I can't think of him as anything other than HRG.
-Yay for vest-clad Mohinder! Get him out of those fugly jumpers he was working last season.
-Claire makes me lol, with her general reactions. Remember "Holy shh-"?
-There was a Friends repeat on before, and Mama Petrelli is Phoebe's mother-in-law!
-What was up with dream!Sylar? I think I find him creepier when he's not being intentionally creepy.
-So Nathan's definitely back? He's gotta be, hasn't he?
-Grunberg FTW.
no subject
Date: 2007-08-19 07:45 pm (UTC)- The wifebeater just makes me think of the typical New Jersey stereotype. Kinda funny.
- "Holy shh-" was one of my favorite episode endings.
- Mama P is evillllll. We already knew this, but I'd thought I'd emphasize it.
- Sylar, Sylar, Sylar. I don't understand his fangirls. At all.
- I think the only one not coming back is DL.
- True, true.
