+ Andrew Garfield looks all kinds of wonderful in his '70s getup. Leather jacket + snug trousers = GOOD, SEXY TIMES. And this is really rather shallow for a supposed rewiew of a bleak, bleak two hours of television, but, y'know, Andrew Garfield
+ It makes me ridiculously happy to see an Andrew Garfield/Peter Mullan Boy A reunion. And look, IAN FROM SHAMELESS! Ian was always my favourite; love his homosexual freckled self. Although, Gerard Kearns appears to be getting younger? He looks so scrawny here! BAFFLING.
+ There is a delightful amount of Gratuitous Andrew Garfield Shirtlessness, and I am enjoying it a lot. It's like, "Mum, leave me alone, I am busy working on my floor wearing only some tight trousers, GOD." IT'S FANTASTIC.
+ And then here is the part where I feel like a terrible and shallow person, because the violent, serial killer, police-corruption part of this (read: most of it) is horrible, horrible and disturbing and really well done... And yet I am all about the pretty. FUCK'S SAKE, BRAIN.
+ HEY IT'S MY ALL-TIME NUMBER ONE FOREVER GIRL CRUSH REBECCA HALL. Oh how I love her. Her accent is pretty good, and her hair is blonde, what, and she's smoking all the time. YAY GRITTY PERIOD DRAMA. And the two of them are so beautiful together with their cigarettes and flicky '70s hair; not gonna lie, I was hoping very hard that they would hook up, AND THEN THEY DID, A LOT, AND IT WAS TRAGIC AND WONDERFUL.
+ And then SEAN BEAN appeared in a series of tight tight tight roll-neck tops, which was visually interesting because you could see his pecs a lot. And he was so disgusting and evil; the last half hour or so was so BRUTUAL, ugh. Amazingly good, but hard to watch.
Next week: Paddy Considine, Maxine Peake and the return of David Morrissey: Northern Beast.
In other news, despite still not having seen any of the actual show, I've been inhaling SGA podfic (the one with all the knitting! The one where they're a Jedi and a Sith!) AND IT IS GLORIOUS.

Date: 2009-03-06 07:46 pm (UTC)Even his mum couldn't stay away! And, in fairness to your brain, I think some light (or shallow, if you will) thoughts were much required in those loooong, bleak two hours.
As I said elsewhere, me and the Bloke found ourselves inappropriately chuckling at one of the psycho coppers (of the many beatings) who always plays psychos - Ian Brady or that bloke from Ashes to Ashes, anyone? We reckon he's a surprised lovey in real life, "I know I'll never be the romantic lead..." but I guess that's what you get for having eyes bigger than your chin.
Pure, menacing, class.
