Wow, I don't really have all that much to say about this episode. I think it made sense for an episode leading into the final two; none of the established dynamics were fucked with, it was self-contained, lots of nice banter and some solid character development/consolidation for Arthur. ALL GOOD THINGS, I THINK.

I kind of love how Arthur can be both an arrogant unicorn-slaughtering douche and an awesome potential king, and the two things don't cancel each other out (it's the same kind of deal as Merlin being both his mansevant and his friend, maybe?). Again, we have Arthur manning up and learning from his mistakes, which is always fun, and Merlin defending Arthur to anyone who will listen, and Merlin enchanting the fanbase with his unshakeable faith that Arthur is and will be awesome. Ohhh, boys ♥ And arrrrgh, my heart, the Princess Bride ripoff scene at the magically!appearing seaside. "As if I'd let you," oh my days.

Other fun things!
+ Gaius and Merlin and their shenanigans with soapy tea and things which do not taste anything like chicken
+ Uther's stock response of KILL THE MAGIC KILL IT DEAD WE WILL HAVE NO SORCERY HERE THANK YOU VERY MUCH (and a related 'meep' at Arthur being all "Never trust a sorcerer!!!")
+ Feeding each other rats! Also, BRADLEY'S JAWLINE IN THAT SCENE, HOMG. Also also, COLIN'S CHEEKBONES IN EVERY SCENE, HOMG.
+ "You think this is funny" "Moderately" *throws boot*
+ MERLIN'S COMPLETE FAIL REGARDING COVERT HAND SIGNALS

And that is basically all I have to say about that! NEXT WEEK: EVERYONE WANTING UTHER DEAD WTF? Now, I've read the spoilers so I know *why* they're gunning for him, but still. That's kind of hardcore. I HOPE HE SURVIVES TO PIMP ANOTHER DAY.

This episode didn't feel very important on a large scale, but GOOD LORD IT WAS FUN (well, kind of. UNICORNS!!).

Exactly! if there was one very Merlin/Arthur episode, this was it. Although actually, the whole series is pretty much based on that pairing, hee.

The boot throwing was simply cute and amazing, and ahifoi;fhio ah! I love this show.

I loved how the episode was pretty much just Arthur/Merlin with some thrown in character points for everyone else.
Morgana being sly and snkey for the good of the people. Morgana/Gwen FTW! Uther being ARRGGH, I HATE MAGIC! And Gaius just being awesome. Soapy tea, I love it!
