Well, that was pleasantly not-shit!

THIS is the Robin Hood I know and love! I mean, there was no Guy-and-his-hair, but still! There was crack (AHAHAHA, the Sheriff kissing the corpse!hand! Allan in monkish robes! WITH TWO AWESOME SWORDS!), there were gang!shenanigans (Allan & Much! MUCH FAILING AT ANYTHING TO DO WITH WOMEN AND BEING GENERALLY ADORABLE!), Tuck was as fantastic as we have been led to expect from him, John's hair was fab, Kate was fine, and, MOST SHOCKINGLY, Robin wasn't a gigantic douche!

I am so happy to have my warm RH feelings restored! Meanwhile, TOBY IN THREE EPS UNF UNF UNF. Ahem. To restate the important points for those of you who weren't paying attention: GOD, I REALLY REALLY LOVE MUCH. Sam Troughton's eyes give me warm tummy feelings, and meep! he is so adorable with his Bible story excitement (HE BREAKS MY HEART BECAUSE REMEMBER HOW HE CAN'T REEEEEAD) and Kate COULD DO A LOT WORSE, OKAY, I AM JUST SAYING I WOULD NOT BE SO HASTY TO TURN UP MY NOSE AT SOME MUCH-LOVING. Also, TUCK IS, LIKE, NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM LEVELS OF BAMF.

What do we think of the attempts to incorporate Proper History and/or Issues, chickadees?

Also, the universe clearly loves me and wants me to be happy, because the-channel-formerly-known-as-UKTV History (now Yesterday!) showed alllll of the 2006 Jane Eyre this afternoon! SEX ON MY TELLYBOX AND ALL OVER MY PANTS. Ohhh, I have missed that miniseries. TOBY! RUTH! RUPERT THE BEAR-INSPIRED RIDING GET-UPS! THROATPORN! SLANNEN THE ELF! TOBY! RUTH! KISSING IN THE RAIN! HAIR EXTENSIONS! BOOTPORN! TOBY! RUTH!

Phnar.

I have been avoiding RH this series (mainly because of RA's hair. 70s pervert much?) so is it worth catching up?

I am so annoyed I don't have TV at uni... and Jane Eyre was one thing I didn't bring this term. Gahhhhh.

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
'70s pervert' is the PERFECT description of Guy's Grief Barnet! OH SHOW. WHY, IS THE QUESTION. The first two eps were kind of hit and miss, but it seems to be picking up, Tuck is awesome, and there is much unintentional hilarity, so I'd definitely say give it a go..

WOE. I brought faaaar too many DVDs to uni, but I REFUSE to regret it!

[identity profile] darkangsty42.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I am LOVING this attempt at actually making the show somewhat historically relevant, but it's like, two series too late. (REMEMBER CASINO NIGHT? REALLY? Not that I don't love that episode. Still my favorite of series 2 because unexpected Dexter Fletcher is unexpected!) They're doing a semi-decent job of it I suppose too, what with the Irish Question.

But basically I agree with your carnal instincts of "TOBY UNF UNF UNF." He'll come and impregnate the entire village of Locksley since Richard won't. We'll be in line, of course.

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
OHH CASINO NIGHT. OHH DEXTER FLETCHER. I think I'd have to go with "Angel of Death" as my S2 favourite, because, y'know, WILL SCARLETT AND HIS NECK. This history thing seems to be working surprisingly well, though!

CARNAL INSTICTS IS THE MOST APPROPRIATE PHRASE HERE, I THINK. Jesus, that man and his crotch!

[identity profile] darkangsty42.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, perfect timing. I just got the email notification for this comment and my sister (in the process of rewatching the series) ims me with "UNEXPECTED DEXTER FLETCHER IS UNEXPECTED." I feel like we should have t-shirts.

CARNAL INSTINCTS IS THE MOST APPROPRIATE PHRASE HERE, I THINK. Jesus, that man and his crotch!
IT WOULD BE HISTORICALLY ACCURATE TOO. GET ON THAT, WRITERS!

I get to use my icon of absolute joy!

I luurve YeSTERDAY- they give *sniff* gave me The House of Eliot in the afternoons.

We will talk Hood on Weds xXx

I THINK THAT IT MIGHT BE THE MOST JOYOUS ICON IN THE HISTORY OF HAPPINESS.

*pops an arrow in ya ass*

[identity profile] gregoria44.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I have so much more Much love now he has more to do than moon over Ribena, I mean, Robina.

And if I'm honest, they'd have had me at Allan TwoSwords A Dale. That's more like it, boys!

Toby? Are we talking old not-very-nice-at-swigging-ale Charlie from Coro? Either way, I'm all for some Kevin Eldon. Good timez!

[identity profile] curlybeach.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
HISTORICAL ACCURACY? WHAT IS THIS FUCKERY, WRITERS?! I felt a little swell of pride, I really did. Apparently they were out by a few hundred years, but I thought the whole thing was handled brilliantly - Tuck was completely brilliant through the whole thing, and bless that little Much! I really enjoyed the plotline, and the episode in general.

Muuuuuuch ♥ I wanted to punch Kate when she harshed his buzz. Much is a catch, man. He's sensitive, and he cooks!

TOBY TOBY TOBY UNF UNF UNF. I literally cannot wait until we get some John/Guy love. It's going to be so freaking good, Sophie. TOBYYYY.

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like watching Bambi learn to walk! BABY STEPS, WRITING TEAM. LET'S NOT BE TOO HASTY.

AS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED MANY TIMES IN THIS HERE JOURNAL, I WOULD. I REALLY WOULD.

TOBY TOBY TOBY. And it's TOBY, so you know he's going to be all sexy and walk crotch-first everywhere and be inappropriate about personal space. I CANNAE WAIT.

Your icon! OH ALLAN, I HAVE MISSED YOUR FACE.

[identity profile] curlybeach.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have just read your comments to [livejournal.com profile] lalumena, and lol'd extensively at REALLY SEXY PEPPER.

The other imagery you have suggested - crotch walking and inappropriate touching - have me POSITIVELY TEMBLING. Come on, Toby, we're DYING here!

[identity profile] bishwop.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
BUT DID YOU ENJOY THE FLYING POO SOUNDS??

[identity profile] bishwop.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I am watching Lewis on ITV Player but I SEE NO HARRY ANYWHERE. I am sure I am watching the right episode though. It has Helen Baxendale and Joanna Lumley in it? WHERE IS HE IN THE EPISODE PLEASE??

[identity profile] bishwop.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And finally, okay, I feel the need to comment more sensibly about Robin Hood.

ALLAN WITH TWO SWORDS WAS SO SO AWESOME. (Yes, this is what "more sensibly" means to me) He GROWLED, Sophie! HE GROWLED.

The problem I'm having at the moment is that I don't mind Kate that much during the episode and then I go to the Robin Hood community and read episode reaction and everyone is all "WE HATE KATE" and it makes me not want to like her either!! I again wasn't sure about her in this episode so keeping an open mind AGAIN for next week. I am somewhat excited about her and Allan being held captive though.

I hope we see Guy again BEFORE Toby appears!! Because four episodes without Guy is NOT something I am optimistic about. At all. I fear Richard's Spooks stint meant he didn't have as much time to film for RH this year and thusly is not in some of the episodes? EEEEP.

Oh I saw Jane Eyre listed in the RT! (And I did not know that "Yesterday" is infact renamed UKTV History. Interesting. There was a second this morning when I thought it was a channel DEVOTED TO PERIOD DRAMAS (CAN YOU IMAGINE THE BEAUTY?!) but ALAS, NO, because I then saw documentaries about Hitler and such in the listings.) I do have the DVD with me at uni though, might rewatch at some point! And LOL at Rupert Bear!!

BUT OF COURSE.

Love the last paragraph ;)

[identity profile] lalumena.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
TOBY IN THREE EPS UNF UNF UNF
ALAS ALAS AND THERE WAS ME HOLDING OUT HOPES OF IT BEING NEXT EP OH SHOW HOW CAN YOU TAUNT ME SO

And oh, as endearing as Much is I can't help wondering 'what about Eve'? :( I hope they at least reference her...

[identity profile] sophieisgod.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
OH MY DAYYYYYS, YOUR ICON! Armitage, whatever are you doing with your face?

The three eps thing is just based on something I gleaned from someone else? I DO NOT KNOW IT FOR A FACTUAL FACT. Personally, I would have expected them to save him for round the finale, but maybe he'll be sprinkled through the season like REALLY SEXY PEPPER?

I don't think they will, you know. They brought it up in the Digital Spy interview and Sam barely seemed to remember her. SO FICKLE.

[identity profile] lalumena.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe that is what is known as a smoulder-smirk. If you're wanting a technical term. ;)

Hee, maybe! I think you're right about the in three eps thing, because over at Shootastic he doesn't appear in the photos until 3x06.

What WHAT. :( Ah well. Hopefully by starting it more subtly like this and making it something that will stretch over several episodes it's more likely to turn out to be something more permanent?
