Yet another of those tedious dribs 'n' drabs posts, in which Sophie attempts to chronicle her increasingly dull life experiences. Why is Southport so very boring? Why are there no jobs? Why isn't the weather nice enough for me to get any decent photographs of the pier? Grrr.
Okay, I saw Hairspray (against my better judgement) and I actually love it! Like, can't-stop-singing-the-songs, twisting-all-the-time, seen-it-twice-and-going-again, worried-because-I-found-Zac-Efron-vaguely-attractive love it! You can't not love a musical featuring a flasher in its opening number!
Anyway, veering wildly between gloriously kitsch and cheesy and actually rather moving, Hairspray is a bit awesome. Firstly, Elijah Kelley is HOT. Secondly, James Marsden is DELICIOUS (I had to tell my friend that he was Cyclops! I win, she does not). Thirdly, I've seen (and enjoyed, but that's a different story) High School Musical, and now I kinda fancy Zac Efron. This makes me feel a little bit ill. It's the hips, I tells ya! And the hair! And that bit in "I Can Hear The Bells" where he licks his hand! Also, he was Young!Simon in Firefly, which is odd. Anyway, uncomfortable feelings aside, it made me feel very happy. Also, John Travolta makes a strangely convicing woman. And Christopher Walken wins, as usual.
The Departed is all kinds of awesome. Firstly, very cute leads. When did Leo get hot again? It's been a while. I mean, he really did not look great in Gangs Of New York. But topless!prison!workouts I can get on board with, I really can. And Matt Damon! Usually I like him when he's being all taciturn and morose (I cannot WAIT for The Bourne Ultimatum), but in this he was all cheeky and charming and so on. That first scene with annoying!female!lead! in the lift was adorable.
Also, all the Irish! I had to buy the soundtraack because it was so very badass. And this line is so very, very true:
"If we're not gonna make it, it's gotta be you that gets out, cause I'm not capable. I'm fucking Irish, I'll deal with something being wrong for the rest of my life."
And yay! for violence (that bit with the arm and the cast! ouch!) and extreme swearing and unexpected and frequent deaths. Anyone seen Infernal Affairs? Does it compare favourably? And just general praise in the direction of Ray Winstone and Mark Wahlberg.
I finally got around to watching the Ray Winstone Henry VIII that I ordered, like, at EASTER. It was pretty good. Ray Winstone was a beast in the early parts, especially when on horseback. Oh my. Mark Strong was complete sex, as ever. I don't understand why someone would employ Sean Bean, God Of Sex, and then use him for a mere ten minutes but whatever. Helena Bonham-Carter as Anne Boleyn was good, different to how I'd anticipated her playing it. I now have something of a girl crush on Emily Blunt, after seeing her play Catherine Howard, so expect picspam, or icons, or something in the next few days - my historical ship of choice is currently Catherine Howard/Thomas Culpepper... All in all, pretty good, apart fom it was ITV, so production values weren't great. And ugh, to the nasty, soft-lit, floaty pink veils not-sex scene with Henry and Anne. Yack.

Post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section. (examples:"5 Things You'd Do If The World Explodeded" or "Top 5 things to drink"). Then, in the comments, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me. Then you post this offer in your own journal.
I got History Boys tickets! Saturday 27th October, Matinee, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF ROW B OF THE STALLS, BABY! I am slightly overcome. Ooh, and the audiobook came!
I'm reading lots and lots of Philip Larkin at the minute, and the more I read it, the more I like it.
Water
If I were called in
To construct a religion
I should make use of water.
Going to church
Would entail a fording
To dry, different clothes;
My litany would employ
Images of sousing,
A furious devout drench,
And I should raise in the east
A glass of water
Where any-angled light
Would congregate endlessly.
Oh, and happy Alfred Hitchcock's birthday! May your day be full of suspense.

I'm flabbergasted that someone actually enjoyed The Departed. I'm still waiting to get those hours of my life back, Scorsese!
And, uh.. for the meme: Top 5 Favorite Heroes of Literature.
no subject
Heh, I liked it. Mob violence FTW!
Heroes...
1. Rhett Butler, Gone With The Wind
2. Mr Rochester, Jane Eyre
3. Colonel Brandon, Sense & Sensibility
4. Odysseus, The Odyssey, The Iliad
5. Benedick, Much Ado About Nothing
no subject
It was a good film, I guess, it's just not my taste. Great cast, though. And fantastic that Marty (FINALLY) won an Oscar.
Your top 3 are the same as mine (except 2 & 3 are flipped). Out of curiousity, what makes you rank Rochester over Brandon?

Hey, ten minutes of Sean Bean is not to be sniffed at :P (and I agree, Emily Blunt is hot stuff - have you seen 'My Summer Of Love'? Because OMG)
Top Five Girl Crushes please :D

True, true. I'm just greedy :D And I started watching MSOL this afternoon and got interrupted, so that's on the to-do list. I love her in Gidon's Daughter, though.
Top 5 Girl Crushes (at this moment, as I am fickle)
1. Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Goddess.
2. Julianne Moore
3. Ludivine Sagnier (Swimming Pool... wow)
4. Natalie Portman
5. Emily Blunt :D

5 times Scripps & Posner kissed :)
no subject
1. Hastily on the piano; it made loud noises
2. Up against the war memorial
3. Behind a crumbly wall at the Abbey; Posner was upset about Dakin and Irwin
4. The night they stayed in Oxford for their interviews; they were sharing a room...
5. After Hector's funeral

hee!! This made me grin so big earlier when I saw it. Yay! thank you :)

The Departed! Nghh. ♥ that movie. After seeing it, I finally got the Leo craze. But then again, back in the day, he was emulating a member of a boy band, which is hard to find attractive. Also, wasn't Martin Sheen Bartlet in that all over again? Except for the being shot and pushed off a building, of course.
Since we talked about Firefly... top 5 shipping moments (series or film) or top 5 favorite character moments (series or film).

Top 5 Firefly Shipping Moments
Oh no, I haven't watched in ages, they've all fallen out of my brain! Ah, well.
1. Kaylee/Simon: "You mean to say, as in, sex?" "I mean to say." And also, ENGINE ROOM SEX!
2. Mal/Inara: All the kissing/tension/falling down and hurting of heads like Wash in "Our Mrs Reynolds"
3. Jayne/Kaylee: Only a little moment, but I love him watching her get fixed after the shooting in the pilot.
4. Wash/Zoe: Snuggling at the bonfire thing in "our Mrs Reynolds"
5. Kaylee/Simon: "I said, I think you're pretty" and so on, drunk and then the morning after, in "Jaynestown"
Damn, I can't remember any good Mal/Inara moments! Curses!

And the blood is all like "SPLATTER!" Hardcore, indeed.
And you know what? Mal and Inara never kiss! For real! Damn you Joss! *goes off and builds a shrine anyway*

I've been hearing really good things about Hair Spray. I'm not much of a musicals lover, and especially focused in the 60s/70s/whatever, but I think I'll give it a try. Your comments on Zac Efron made me laugh x)
I liked The Departed, although not like in a OMG!!1AMAZINGMOVIE1! kind of way. It was good. The violence in it was amazing though, in a good way. Especially at the end in the scene with the elevator. The music/Irish references were also good :))
I watched Henry VIII. It was a long time ago, and although I can't remember specific details about it I remember I liked it. And indeed, he was smexy as a young Henry *nods* I also liked Ray Winstone in King Arthur and was happily surprised to find him in The Departed ^^
Oh, and happy Alfred Hitchcock's birthday! May your day be full of suspense
lol :DD

I honestly loved it, it's a proper feel-good film. I do have a bit of a musicals fetish, so I may be biased, but give it a go :)
Eep! The violence! Very cool. Especially at the end, that was just insane. I have an urge to rewatch and just count how many people get shot in the head/thrown off a roof etc.
Ray Winstone, in general, is smexy. I wasn't fussed on King Arthur, but I did love the supporting characters, especially The Two Rays, Winstone and Stevenson. Yummy.

Wow, now that I think about it there was a lot of hotness going on in that movie. Ioan Gruffudd was looking good too & Mads Mikkelsen was interesting ^^ I might watch it again heh.

Stuff that makes me feel all warm and snuggly...
1. Stand By Me
2. Little Women
3. Singin' In The Rain :)
4. Beauty & The Beast
5. Much Ado About Nothing
Also, the LotR trilogy, but I think that would be pushing it for one afternoon...

Awww. Lovely movie. I'm listening to the score right now ^^
5. Much Ado About Nothing
so much &hearts
Also, the LotR trilogy, but I think that would be pushing it for one afternoon...

Ewww, the licking the hand bit was gross.
John Travolta should be a woman permanently. I like him better that way. :D
And: 5 things you would do to try and get thrown into prison.
no subject
It was hot. I am warped. But just imagine a Phelps twin doing it. Also, I have been dwelling on Oliver's crooked smile more than is healthy. Leading us nicely to...
5 things I would do to try and get thrown into prison
1. Hold up a stables, demanding they get Oliver there sharpish, before I start setting fire to bales of hay
2. Handcuff myself to a twin and swallowing the key
3. Ambush, Robin Hood style
4. Inadvertently get caught by the Internet Police
5. As a last resort... Kidnapping
no subject
Oh oh oh does that mean I can have James? Considering you are threatening to set fire to bales of hay for his twin :D
1. I LOVE THIS. Ohhhh I just thought of an extra thing for the Phelps!Maths equation: OLIVER'S SUNGLASSES THAT HE WEARS ON THAT HORSE PICTURE. They make him look HOT.
2. That would be Oliver? *nods encouragingly*
5. I'll help! :D

Phelps!Maths will make our fortunes, I am sure. The tshirt sales alone will be ample dowry.

Best invention of the millennium XD I so want to go and meet them now! If we gave them a couple of Phelps!Maths t-shirts, it still wouldn't be the weirdest thing they'd ever had. I mean, the bra with potatoes thing, I don't think anything could beat that. o.O
Happy Hitch day of birth to youuuuuuu!
Oh hurrah! I am happy you are seeing History Boys :D
The Departed was good I thought, maybe a bit overrated. I appreciated it more seeing as I know Boston and all their locationsssss. *boasts*
