No Reason To Get Excited (EXCEPT THERE TOTALLY IS BECAUSE OHHH, THIS SHOW, THIS SHOW)

OH GOD, MY SHOW HAS ENDED, AND IT WAS GLORIOUS.

+ Gaius Frakking Baltar
OH MY DAYS. I just, I cannot believe how far I have come with this character. Looking back at my response to the mini, and all the gleeful and bemused adoration I had for his vaguely ridiculous self-perservation-y coackroach ways, and the overwhelming and unashamed total love I have for him now... Let's put this in context. I didn't really cry that much during the episode, just a few tears sniffles here and there and a lot of grasping [livejournal.com profile] thedreamygirl's hand and squeaking wildly. Not at Galactica breaking her back; not at Sam flying into the sun. Gaius saying, "You know, I know about farming," had me completely broken down, sobbing and gasping all over the fucking place. I just, it's the same reason I cried harder at the end of Big Fish than I have at any other film ever; it's the idea that someone will take this thing they hate, that they have always tried to avoid becoming, and they will go there, will go there wholly and gladly for love. CRYING LIKE A TINY CHILD. JAMES CALLIS DID MY DEGREE, BITCHES.

You know, now we're in a position to be able to look back on everything, I think you could make a really strong argument for Gaius and Caprica being the OTP of the entire show - more than Helo/Athena, Progenitors Of Humanity As We Know It, more than the Admiral and the President, more than the Cylon Soulmates, more than any one of Kara's pairings. I am so, so happy with how they turned out. Loved his (admittedly unsurprising) decision to stay and fight, loved how generous she was with him after he did it (remember how they were making me cry with their brokenness, like, a fortnight ago?), loved her actually being able to be proud of him. AND THEN THE WONDER OF HEAD!SIX AND HEAD!GAIUS! Them being able to see the other angel/demon/unnamed entity really kind of reminded me of Will and Lyra touching each other's daemons. OH YOU CRAZY KIDS IN PROPER LOVE AND EVERYTHING. I said it last week, but I really did adore their flashbacks; I loved the cut from him basically selling the entire human race for love to the two of them on Earth - Caprica is so much gentler now, she's lost that hard edge of slightly manic desperation, and Gaius is.. stiller, maybe? KILLED ME WITH THE HAND ON THE FACE, GUYS.

+ Kara
Ohh, my girl. I feel like this was a gorgeous ending for her; these past few episodes we've seen her kind of peaceful acceptance of her death, and really she's been wanting this since New Caprica and maybe even before. She's an angel, WHAT. A messenger. Harbinger. And she did her shit, and now she can be at peace. And HOMG, WHEN SHE RASPED OUT "THERE MUST BE SOME KIND OF WAY OUT HERE" I FOR SERIOUS FLIPPED MY SHIT. AND THEN THE MONTAGE, WITH THE MUSIC AND WEE!KARA AND LEOBEN CALLING HER AN ANGEL. OH SHOWWWW. OH KARA. OH BEAR MCCREARY.

+ Lee Adama is idealistic love
OH LELAND. Did anyone else feel that the tragedy of his S4 politico!bouffant was only compounded by the EXTREME HOTNESS of his flashback!hair? FAIL. And ohhh, I loved how much he loved Earth 2.0 - HIS HAIR ACTUALLY MADE SENSE THERE, I FEEL. Although, one of my only niggles with the episode (and it was a fairly major one) was Lee's attitude to the do-over. Starting fresh is A Good Thing, I agree, but technology and education and intelligence and knowledge and science are not inherently bad things, and treating them as such is scary and stupid. That's all, really, although the attitude to the indigenous peoples was also... charming. YAY WE CAN BREED! LET'S GIVE THEM LANGUGAGE! Whatever, Ronald.

+ Kara/Lee
OH KIDS. I feel like their flashback said it all very eloquently; they were fucked from the beginning, for so very many reasons. Those two have the worst timing. I love them, but I'm so glad the show didn't force them into an unnatural resolution. Although, if they'd tried, I suspect Sackhoff would have cut a bitch *tosses her Kara/Leoben tinhat, woop!* I felt so bad for poor Lee, though. EVERYONE JUST LEFT HIM, and now he will just have to be a lonely explorer. BUT BUT BUT I FEEL SO VINDICATED BECAUSE A YEAR AGO I SAID: Kara is the search for Earth, Lee is what we do when we get there.

+ Samuel T. Anders
I think Sam's ending is the one that makes me the saddest. He looks so awful, lying there so cold and pale in the Hybrid goo, babblin Hybrid-speak, and it KILLS ME everytime they intercut it with his gorgeous monologue about why he loves Pyramid, ach. ILU Sam, and I loved Kara's goodbye to him.

+ Let's wrap this mutha up
OH MY DAYS, I THOUGHT THEY HAD KILLED HELO! But Helo lived! Hooray! I think Boomer and Chief's endings, as sad as they were, were pretty much the only things left to those characters at this point. WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE 4.17, MY LOVES! ♥ Something else I didn't really appreciate? DEAD TORY. I always feel kind of bad for Rekah, because the showrunners did nowhere near enough with the character, and, as such, she essentially became fandom's whipping boy. Poor Tory. YAY CYLON SOULMATES! Saul and Ellen in a strip club made me deliciously happy. Adama throwing up on himself, not so much. OLD PEOPLE IN LOVE! Adama putting the ring on Roslin's finger was so beautiful, and then him just sitting by her grave, telling her about the cabin. OHHH ♥ I really wish there had been more Leoben in this half of the season, but hey, he's happy (AND HE HAD BETTER HAVE LOTS TO DO IN THE PLAN). Hotdog lived! THE OPERA HOUSE REVEAL GAVE ME CHILLS!

And now I don't quite know what to do with myself.
