Be thankful that you're being spared all my horrible "Pandora's Box" puns

Ohh, Pandora. First off, I do realise that I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I love her quite a lot. And even when the stuff on the page is OTT and grating, I think Lisa Backwell does lovely stuff with it, so. YAY PANDORA. I'm setting up my flag and shit.

So, episode! For a Pandora-centric episode, there was a whole chunk in the middle where she was hiding in the toilet, but there was some awesome Effy stuff, so it's all good. KAYA WAS SO EFFING GOOD THIS EPISODE. I mean, I always love her, but usually it's an OMG HOW SO FIERCE? kind of love, whereas this week it's a you're sixteen, how are you this good? thing. PANDA CALLING EFFY ON HER BULLSHIT, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. It was all I dreamed it would be and more! I actually got a little bit teary during the post-Cook one, because Pandora didn't even seem all that angry; it was more like this sad statement of fact. I also really liked the Cook/Effy/Freddie stuff this week - I didn't roll my eyes once! It was nicely balanced; I've never really been massively into Cook/Effy, but her "You don't give a fuck about anything, do you?" was kind of weirdly poignant, because that's why she likes him, because she wants to be able to not give a fuck, but at the same time she sounds kind of disgusted with them both. IDK. And then her guard is down enough that she actually follows Freddie out into the street, and he basically tells her to grow the fuck up. I liked that he acknowledged that yes, her life is currently shit, but that doesn't give her a free pass to being a horrible friend. It's like, you know that scene in In Bruges, where Ray tells Chloe he wanted to go out with her because he thought she was nice, and she just was completely glowing at the thought that someone could see her like that? I feel like maybe that's how Effy wants Freddie to see her, a little bit (and really only when she's wasted enough to pursue him in the first place). Because Cook likes her, but he doesn't think she's nice, and she isn't, really, and I DON'T KNOW. I definitely don't want this to be a "safe her from a life of slutitude" thing, but I think they're more sweet and less dull than I used to. OH YOU CRAZY KIDS.

Aaaaand I also enjoyed Cook/Pandora! In a strictly one-time-only sense, but it was kind of glorious (I loved the little moment in 3.02 where she was off her face and all "You're beautiful, but no")? There was this really awesome tension between them genuinely having fun together (HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WOULD PLAY TWISTER WITH HER, OH PANDORA) and something more... I dunno, predatory, maybe? Although that might just be how Cook looks ALL THE TIME. I ENJOYED IT, ANYWAY. And "Love Lockdown" was PERFECTION. And they were very sweet saying goodbye the next morning, bless. Pandora's line to Effy about "He'll never belong to anyone" was also lovely, AND YAY THOMAS IS BACK. Show, is there a way that he never has to find out about Cook/Pandora? BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T WANT HIM TO FIND OUT, EVER. I just want them to be happy and adorable forever, please and thankyou.

BOYYYYYS. I love them still. Poor JJ, he's like the child of a broken home, trying to keep everyone happy. COOK CALLING FREDDIE A "FUN SPONGE"! FREDDIE AND JJ HAVING CODE FOR HOW MESSED UP COOK IS! FREDDIE BEING ALL "YOU HAVE TO LOOK AFTER HIM!" OH BOYYYYS. I like the three of them together so much; my enjoyment of the relationships on this show I think is considerable enough to outweight any plot-based stupidity (FUCK OFF, BRISTOL ROVERS).

Still can't bring myself to care about Emily/Naomi. BE LESS STILTED, CHILDREN.

YAY SALLY PHILLIPS!

OHH GILBERT. He was so lovely and 80s and THE SMITHS! And boyyyys tackling each other onto the couch. Also, fucking hell, poor Annie. I knew there was something off about Owen, that's so sad. I feel like I never have that much to say about Being Human, because my response to every episode is AWWWW I LOVE IT GROUP HUG, so. ♥!
