Another Lovely Meme, And Some Incoherent Musings On Leon
Comment on this post. I will choose 6 interests from your profile and you will explain what each of them means (and why you're interested in them). If you comment and don't want to do it, just let me know.
spybarbie gave me: bloody motherfucking assholes, golden spacesuits, princess mononoke, remus lupin, spartan abs, toby stephens
bloody motherfucking assholes is a reference to a gorgeous Martha Wainright song called, oddly enough, Blooedy Motherfucking Asshole. I'm a big Rufus Wainwright fan, but there's something incredibly raw about the way Martha sings that hits me right in the gut. And I love these lyrics rather a lot:
I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
When all I wanted was to be good
To do everything in truth
To do everything in truth
golden spacesuits is a reference to the Danny Boyle film Sunshine, starring Cillian Murphy and his lovely freckled shoulders.

I just like the spacesuits, because they are gold for seemingly no reason, and it's very glam rock.
princess mononoke is a Hayao Miyazaki film from 1997, and it's strange and wonderful and has forest spirits in. The English dub was scripted by Neil Gaiman, who I love to an unreasonable degree, and Billy Crudup and Claire Danes did some of the voices. Plus, it's Studio Ghibli, so the animation is beautiful. IMDb!

remus lupin is probably my favourite character in the Harry Potter universe (it fluctuates between Lupin and Ron, depending on my angst levels). Anyway, he's a werewolf. With issues. And ANGST. And I love him lots. He's endured horrendous things (lycanthropy, persecution, unemployment, thinking his best friend murdered his other friends, seeing his best friend die) and yet carries himself with tremendous grace and dignity. I have a major kink for 'wry smiles'. Rather than making me hate him, his struggles in Deathly Hallows only made me feel for him more. And it doesn't hurt that he's played by David Thewlis.

spartan abs is listed as a sign of respect to those poor, sweaty, ripped actors who played Spartans (AROO! AROO!) in 300. True, they may have been digitally enhanced, but there was a gratifying amount of manflesh on display.
toby stephens is a remarkable (and HOT) actor, probably best known for playing Mr Rochester in the 2006 Jane Eyre and the bad guy in Die Another Day. He is beautiful, and ginger, and the son of Dame Maggie Smith. He is actually sex on legs, and I was lucky enough to see him in Betrayal at the Donmar in June. I squeed about this rather a lot.

I watched Leon today! It is so very hardcore. And even when he's smelling people and bullying twelve year old girls, Gary Oldman *still* manages to be sexy! How is he doing this? I definitely have to see Dracula now. Anyway, I want to have a complicated relationship with Jean Reno so he can teach me how to be a hitman, and if I ever have daughters, I shall dress them like urchins and make them have haircuts like Natalie Portman's. The plant! Sting, on the end credits! Milk!
EDIT: I can't count. Or read. I gave most people five interests instead of six. Oops!

Interest meme me! =D I need something to do cause I am dying of boredom right now.
Having watched PoA again today, I love David Thewlis as Lupin. It's just his costume that I have a mjaor issue with. I really want to fancy him, but I just can't, because he has a dodgy moustache, weird hair and baggy clothes that aren't even "shabby" like they're supposed to be. And it's not David Thewlis's fault, cause I think he is good-looking, it's just the clothes they put him in. I'm hoping he has a new, shabby wardrobe / hairdo for thr 6th and 7th films
Somehow, though, I doubt it. Although his hair was different in 3rd and 5th. Although not enough.
Anyway, I think you described Lupin very well there. GRACE AND DIGNITY FTW.
LUPIN 4EVA, YO.
(Why the eff do I not have a Lupin icon. I need to make one pronto.)
I'm gonna look up that song now. I <3 Martha Wainwright's song w/ Snow Patrol. Guuuuh it was sex.

See how I very subtly included Tonks as opposed to Lupin? Otherwise we'd just look crazy and obsessive...
I really want to fancy him, but I just can't
BWAH! He is lovely. Not even after the doorway leaning in OotP? Bless you for trying, though. It's funny, when I read the books my imaginary!Lupin is more conventionally attractive (and younger), but Thewlis works for me in the films. Re: baggy vs shabby... It's weird because there's no reason for them not to fit. He's a wizard, yo, he could probably shrink them or whatever if he needed to. However, I do love muchly David Thewlis' logic that Lupin's cardigans = Kurt Cobain's cardigans.
LUPIN OWNS MY SOUL
Set The Fire To The Third Bar is magnifique. I loves the video. And it is indeed sex.

Yes, I did. And, yes, because we were so far from running that risk anyway ;)
Oh, I forgot about that. That was a good moment. My thought process was basically "Aww that's a really good hug" to "Omg, David Thewlis needs to lean on doorframes way, way more often." I can't wait for the DVD to come out. I can just replay that two seconds of film again and again and again. I sense animated icons too. Many of them.
Okay, scrap everything I said, I do fancy him. I don't know what I was thinking in that last comment, actually. Because I do fancy him. I would fancy Remus Lupin if he was covered in warts and looked like a garden gnome. Or Homer Simpson. Or a giant mushroom. Or Anything At All That Looks Entirely Unpleasant.
Meh. Is he going to be in the 6th film at all? I just...isn't he in the 5th book quite a lot?? And he was hardly in the film at all. He should at least be in the 7th film a lot. He was in DH much more than I expected him to be, if I'm honest. And we got a lot more R/T than I expected us to get. I can't complain, really, can I? OH. EXCEPT THAT I CAN. BECAUSE SHE KILLED THEM. *humph*

I've got my fingers crossed for some Lupin action in the deleted scenes, but the problem is a lot of the scenes he's prominent in in the book are there, but he's just been cut. Grrr. The only thing that I think has a real chance is Harry angsting to Lupin and Sirius in the fireplace about Snape's Worst Memory. The flashback itself will be on the DVD, so fingers crossed! Maybe some extended fight scene, but I think that's our lot. AND LUPIN AND TONKS DIDN'T EVEN TALK TO EACH OTHER OR SHARE A GLANCE OR ANYTHING. *humph*
And the sheer Lupin-ness in HBP makes me really hope for more Lupin in the fillums, because the Lupin/Tonks/Teddy plot offers family-type human emotional stuff all the way through, whereas we don't really see the Weasleys except at the beginning and the end. AND YET SHE STILL KILLED THEM! AND THEY HAD A TINY TURQUOISE-HAIRED BABY!
no subject
Yes! And I think that might have been my favourite Lupin scene in OoTP, except for Privet Drive.
Do you know how much of the flashback is going to be in the deleted scenes? LIke, are we getting "One: he's sitting in my chair...Two: he's wearing my clothes...Three: his name's Remus Lupin"?? I mean, I can't believe they went to all of the trouble of casting those six actors to play the young characters, and yet they included all of five seconds of what appears in the book. Surely, surely they atleast FILMED the whole thing?
You made me cackle again.
no subject
I hope they filmed it, because it seems like something that would be in early drafts, but not actually get shot, because of the special effects needed for Fireplace!head or whatever. Why am I trying to talk myself out of this? I just don't want to care anymore, because when you care about stuff you lose everything!
Ohh, the only proper canon Young!Remus moment... He's all dry and wonderful and self-deprecating even then! I don't know about the exam, I reckon it's probably just the lakeside stuff.
no subject
Actually, what am I talking about? My favourite Lupin moment in OoTP the book is SO BADLY the pulling Harry back from the veil and "He's...gone" HOW ON EARTH DID I NOT REMEMBER THAT? Well, I suppose it is 4am.
Isn't the discussion about the exam as they are walking to the lake, though? It couldbe in there *clings to hope* Rough deal for Young Lupin actor if he goes through all the casting and doesn't even get a line to say.
Tell me about it. I honestly think that all of my favourite characters die in ALL of my fandoms. Still, if I didn't care about them, then I would never be into the fandom in the first place, so it's a bit of a viscious cycle, really.
